elevated ALT level
« on: September 27, 2009, 04:32:08 pm »
Hello all:

I have questions in regards to elevated ALT level, please kindly advise if I should have any concern over this.  My last alcohol consumption before my test this past friday was last Sunday, it has been over 5 days before I take the blood work.  The most recent is still on the high end.  Is this the alcohol or Atripla triggering it?   I have been on meds for more than 4 months now.  Should I stop all alcohol?

Below please find my readings:

Name   Standard Range   7/3/06   12/22/06   5/8/07   10/29/07   3/7/08   6/6/08   9/19/08   6/26/09   7/9/09   9/25/09
ALT (U/L)   <36- U/L   30   33   33   31   22   25   26   86   45   84

Thanks

Hi Monmon,

I split the post you left in another thread and made it your own thread. It's always good to start your own thread when you have such specific questions.

What has your doctor said? Had you been drinking heavily before the five alcohol-free days and blood draw? It's difficult to comment as we don't know how much you normally drink.

I don't recall hearing about elevated ALT and any of the components of Atripla, but hopefully someone who knows more can help.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
