PRO 140 another potential med for the arsenal looking good!

Even though I don't relish another subcutaneous injection med, anything with the above safety profile is good.

Tommy,

The above results were for a phase 2a trial in patients infected with HIV and using the R5 entry. Need phase 3 before submittal to FDA for approval.

consider also that it is nothing else than an addition to the current regimens. it's an alternative for those who have resistance. it's not a breakthrough in treatment. i'm not so impressed by this one, sincerely.

agreed that this would just be another member of the arsenal, but the fact that side effects are minimal to nil and the vl reduction so dramatic for an extended period in a phase II is significant and could definitely be the beginning of the 'next phase' of hiv treatment - yes i know we wish the next phase were the cure - but it would be much better than meds every day.

However, don't forget that Sangamo is still cranking away on their zink finger CCR5 inhibitor that works the same way as PRO 140, in terms of fighting HIV, but would do so PERMANENTLY.  They are taking their time, but keep an eye on them.
11/9/06 = #$%^&!
sometime early Dec 2006:
CD4 530 20%/VL >250,000 (&*$$%!!)
started Reyataz300mg/Norvir/Truvada 12-27-06.
1/30/07 CD4 540 30%/VL <400
4/07 CD4 600+ 33%/VL <50
6/9/07 CD4 720 37%/VL <50
10/15/07 CD4 891 (!) %? VL <50
1/2010 CD4 599 (37%) VL<50 (drop due to acute HCV)
9/2010 - looks like HCV is gone for good! And I'm finally drinking again, thank GOD
2013 - considering a switch to Stribild. but I love my Kidneys (but I hate farting all the time!)...
June 2013 - switched to Stribild.  so far so good...

yes but you need to take this with other arv drugs. it's not a monotherapy. so even if it's side effects free you still have to accept those from the other meds. also an injection every week added to the all day regimen is not that big progress.
