worried about exposure
« on: April 04, 2017, 03:51:01 pm »
hi - straight male here - i recently went to a party where i'm pretty sure i was drugged, i drank a shot of something that tasted metallic and what i smoked was definetly not weed. i was hooking up with a girl using protection and there were a lot of people around - next thing i know i remember being grabbed a lot and almost blacking out - i came to a few times and remember feeling penetrated from behind. in the morning they told me they were clean and acted friendly and i was too high to really comprehend what was going on. i just left - they told me they had a condom on but i dont trust they did

i started pep before 24 hrs had even passed and took every test imaginable and came clean. ive never done any risky sex before and always have been safe in relationships. this has thrown me for a loop. im not interested in really pressing charges or anything - i left and i dont know really who these people were - it doesn treally feel real either and ive kind of boxed it away - im just terrified i may have caught hiv - my dr has told me ill be fine so did the er - but i just want some kind of reassurance from people who may have been in a similar situation

so far i havent felt any side effects from pep and the worst i feel is when im particularly worried about the whole thing

Hi

Look since you passed out and can't recall what happened and think you engaged in sex well PEP was not a bad idea.

Its highly effective and I suspect you will be fine, test 6 & 13 weeks after finishing the PEP for a conclusive result. You should also test for other easier to transmit STI's.

As for others claiming to be HIV negative well they don't know, even if they tested today all it means is they could have been negative some 13 weeks ago. Not much good to you.

Finally I wish you well, however there is no "cleanliness" test so you test restful could not be clean. You either have a reactive or a negative test result and we all have a HIV status. Mine is HIV positive so, I am living with HIV and I wash and I am very clean.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing

Kind regards

Jim

I know that you mean that with "clean" but I don't like the suggestion that a positive result is unclean as it implies I am dirty.  I assure you I wash and my status does not make me unclean or less.

Anyhow yeah all you can do is trust in the PEP and wait for the results. Try to not focus on it and live your life that is the best thing you can do.

On the drinking and drugs side, look I don't want to preach (Glass houses and all) but try to look after yourself and reduce the drugs and drink so you don't find yourself back in this situation again or worse.

Take it easy.
