Comfortable In My Own Body
« on: December 11, 2016, 11:24:33 am »
It has been a few months now that my partner and I were diagnosed with HIV. After the initial shock wore off, I had a lot of questions and fears such as are people going to see me in public and know I am infected? I also feared with such a compromised immune system am I going to contract another illness that would do me in? I guess I thought of all the fears of realizing my own mortality. I somehow felt I had become another person. How could taking medication daily make it all better? there had to be a catch or something the doctor wasn't telling me. After reading other people's stories on this forum I realized I am the same happy and loving person I have always been. I now feel confident and strong and realize a diagnosis did NOT change me. It certainly does help to hear other peoples life experiences in order to reflect on your own.
