Hi There,

I would like to find other LTNP's to share our experiences.
As a probabilist I find the numbers of African positives completely unbelievable unless the disease itself was redesigned for more virulence in folks of African descent.
Herpes was spread through half of the sexually active people in the USA in one decade and the teens and twenty somethings today are not that much more careful than we were. Why don't 10% of hetero americans test positive?
Even allowing a triple infection rate due to hygiene, the spread in Africa is still much too voracious for anyone with a mathematical bent to believe.
Also credible are the theories that HIV was created at our own bioweapons labs. The various sites pertaining to an artificial origin are very credible...papers published re retrovirus work prior to 77 by Dr. Gallo et al.

Hi Lucky,

I've taken your post out of the totally unrelated thread in the Gathering forum where you originally posted, and placed it here, in the Living forum, where you'll get more responses.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Hi There,
.Why don't 10% of hetero americans test positive?

I surmise that so many hetero's feel it is a gay disease that they don't need to bother. I am pretty sure the guy who gave me his gift also thought this. Which is why i am for mandatory testing, As I said before just because you don't like Judy Garland or Barbara Striesand , doesn't mean you can't get HIV.

I must be missing something big (or small?) here.  What does any of this have to do with the subject heading for this topic?

And as for the other:  What exactly are you getting at?  Are you saying these #s are being completely made Up?  If so, by who and for what reason?  The Africa thing...there's a whole lot more than just 'hygiene' to consider.  I mean, there are all kinds of economic, educational and sociological factors to figure in also.  I would also guess that these things have a way of working exponentially on one another.  Just my initial guess.  I'd like to know exactly what mathematical figures and formulas you are working with to support or deny these claims.  Oh, and the HIV there is a more virulent strain than the one hitting most of the rest of the world, from my understanding.  Not that it is 'designed' to target any particular race, it is just a particular mutation strain that happened to explode in a particular region...and that explosion was probably due to all the other factors I alluded to above working in combination one with another.

As for the 10% hetero positive question:  Not only do a lot of heterosexuals not feel as compelled to test, it has been my observation and experience that gay men often have a lot more sex than their hetero counterparts (taken on the whole).  That's just a natural consequence of the involvement of two men, I think...having more to do with the sex involved than the sexual orientation.

I'd like a bit more specific referencng for this 'prior to 77 Gallo et al' business you mention.  What sites?  What studies?  What papers?  I need more than 'et al' to go on before I could reach any understandings or possible opinions on what you are talking about.

AIDS isn't for sissies.

Yeah, what he said....But has always wondered why everyone is crying for Africa when the virus is here in the states? Not trying TO BE IGNORANT but would like an explanation that I can understand.

Queen, his post is operating on a number of false assumptions.

1) That HIV is as easy to transmit as herpes.

It's not.

2) That epidemics and human behavior follow rational mathematical models.

They don't.

3) That HIV is HIV is HIV is HIV... meaning that its virulence is the same in every area of the world.

It's not.

4) That the United States had the genetic and biological technology to create an sophisticated immune system-targeting retrovirus in the 1950s.

And I just hurt myself because I fell over laughing.

If you want to know more about this theory, look under the "Philadelphia Experiment, Bermuda Triangle, and 9/11 Was An Inside Job" section of your local bookstore.
