Questions about US Medicare
« on: June 28, 2024, 06:23:11 pm »
Hi,

apologies in advance, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with Medicare and it's coverage of HIV medications.

I will be applying for medicare next year, and have read as much as I can on HIV coverage, but between donut holes, and other absurd terminologies,  I can't figure out what I will actually have to pay in terms of plans and drugs. I also think if you mess up that initial application, you can be penalized or never get the option to fix it - which doesn't sound right - but who'd know.  Would appreciate any advice or perhaps an organization in the US that would know and could help.

ojo.           Hello there!… I sent you a p.m. with my experience with Medicare. I hope someone else chimes in with information I Medicare. In my case, I have Medicare part A and B and I kept my private insurance. Between Medicare and private insurance they pay hundred percent of my medical visits. My medications I get them through my private insurance because it’s cheaper for me that get them through Medicare part D….hugs

In 2025, Medicare part D out of pocket limit is supposed to be $2000.  That said, Republicans are trying to repeal this change so whether or not it actually takes effect may depend on who is the next US president.

Also note that if you decide to go with Medicare Advantage instead of original Medicare, you need to understand that you may be denied coverage from a Medigap (Supplemental) plan if you decide to switch to original Medicare in the future.  If you need help deciding, SHIP should be an unbiased source.
