Another oral sex question
« on: August 12, 2007, 10:48:19 am »
Hello,

I recently performed oral sex briefly - no cum, possibly some precum - but I've read enough here and on other reliable sites to not be concerned about that. However, a bit of paranoia has kicked in as I was concerned about the possibility that if say five minutes before or so he'd been with someone else and had intercourse (of course, in my head the paranoia is always the worst case scenario) - would that put me in a much greater risk? I don't think so because from what I've read here, it's fragile and if there was any fluid with the virus remaining on his penis then it would have quickly become inactive and wouldn't be able to infect me by the time we got together. But I would appreciate some clarification, if possible. Like I said, I've read a bit here and it seems too fragile for the fluids from the encounter of someone else to still be able to infect me.

No risk in the oral sex with HIV, but you can however contract oral STDs.

OK, great. Am I aware of the STD possibility, it is silly how HIV is the only thing so many of us have in mind. Thanks.

One more question, if that's OK - I will say that I'm quite paranoid about sex in general and it's something that I'm working on. I've only had intercourse once (with a condom and lube, no break) and done oral twice - and briefly at that (I have a terrible gag reflex!). So, I understand that just brief oral with no ejaculation isn't a real risk and have read in various places that preejaculate fluid isn't a concern by itself, but what about the possibility of precum and a minor abrasion such as an ulcer. I mean, these oral encounters lasted literally 15 seconds at the most so I'm doubtful and I certainly don't remember having an ulcer or anything bleeding while I did it...but I'd just appreciate some guidance. I tried to search for answers to my question here but ended up in worse, more paranoid state by looking at other threads (people who are convinced they have it because they have a dot in their mouth, etc.).

So, very brief oral, no cum but maybe precum in the presence of a minor abrasion - would I contract it that way.

No you wouldn't contract HIV that way. Even in the presence of an ulcer. Saliva contains a number of substance known to inhibit HIV.

Given that you are "paranoid" about sex, you might do better to read our Welcome Thread which contains links to our lessons on HIV testing and transmission rather than just asking many variations on the same question.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

I will read that list. I honestly think it's something I need real help with - I have an obsessive type of personality and it's not just sex that I'm weird that way about.

You know, if you have problems with obsessive and compulsive behaviours, you might do well to consult your doctor or a mental health worker. There are a range of treatments available to manage such conditions.

Best wishes,
