blockbuster

near to where I live there used to be a blockbuster video rental store.

my brother rented a movie and forgot about it

he did not give it a second thought. they had a commercial
playing at that time that stated we no longer charge late fees

so he thought he was safe.

then a while later when he returned the video

the store  clerk told him that will be 160 dollar late fee .

he told the clerk that the commercial for blockbuster said you no longer charge late fees

the clerk said that is only at participating locations

this location still charges late fees

so he said I am not paying that and left the store

the debt kept growing . they called sent bills through the mail demanding payment

even sent the debt to a collection agency who hounded him mercilessly and relentlessly over this outstanding debt

a late fee for a video return even after the store closed they still were after him over this debt they wanted to collect

greed taking as much as you can for everything you can .

be careful the world is a dangerous place .

just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that people are not out to get you .

I've been trying to recall the title of this old movie I once watched

A movie I watched many years ago maybe you could help me out in recalling the title.

This old  cantankerous sailor who goes to the society of friends ( Quakers )

as I understand it  they do not have a priest presiding over their sermons . they feel that when the holy spirit moves you to speak . you stand up before the congregation and say what you feel the holy spirit wants you to say .

the main character goes to one of these meetings and stand up and says . the holy spirit tells me to say I am in need of boat . in this you will help me to get one . or something to that effect  . so he is on this boat all rusted out and in dire need of repair. so all alone he starts to work on it .

then a group of I think they were young teenagers show up on his boat. He says to them who are you . they say the society of friends sent us we are your crew .

He says under his breath I am the captain of a boat I am not running some sort of day care here .

I do not recall the title of this movie . I have tried goggling it . the movie takes place in England I believe

does anyone recall a movie like this? it was on TV about maybe forty years ago ?

I had wanted to watch it again . because it seemed like a pleasant distraction .

. I recall the tv we had at that time was black and white with a small cathode ray tube screen . what is CRT ( cathode ray tube ) it looks like a large light bulb with a flat end . which was what televisions used to made of . with a large box around it . they were heavy .  an an antenna on the top of it . that is how in the olden days people use to get their entertainment from . there used to be three channels to watch. in the United States any way .

thank you for hearing me out on this dilemma

maybe someone here had seen this  on a late night movie program on TV or someplace .

I know not a lot to go on ?

I thought even slim chance of figuring it out was better then giving up .

the story was more about being careful of what you ask for because you just may get it

and nothing  is ever exactly the way you think it might be . sometimes worse and sometimes better but never exactly what you expect it to be . maybe it is better this way keeps your mind running and gives you reason to keep going ?

the movie will never be found with that insufficient  information .

I recall it was very funny thinking this guy thought he was taking advantage and geting something he always wanted . only to find it was nothing like what he expected ?

Freud was a real person but this story I do not think it is based on events that are true  to his life but they could have been I guess ?

Yesterday I saw the series finale of How to get away with murder. A fantastic series, one of the best I've ever followed. But glad it ended...at times it became somewhat too complicated to follow. So if your'e ever bored....watch.

I never cared much for RuPaul, until I out of complete boredom binge watched " AJ and the Queen". Very very endearing and worth watching.

Trailer:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfvnMu0maM8

Then we went on to watch another series....."Pose". Boy oh boy, I got more than what I expected....took me on a surprise emotional rollercoaster. Have not expected the AIDS storyline. Heavy heavy stuff. Fantastic acting and worth watching.

Will have to check out that series. Seems to get good reviews. I snagged Season 1.

==

Got these queued up:

Squid Game
The Morning Show (Season 2)
Ted Lasso (Season 2)
Mom - Seasons 1 - 8
Muhammad Ali (Ken Burns doc)
New Amsterdam - Season 1
The Snoopy Show

==

Watched this last night. We love her. Never knew she dated Marlon Brando back in the day. (What a fucked-up - mean - guy he was.)

American Masters (S35E09): Rita.Moreno - Just a Girl Who Decided  to Go for It

Also cannot believe she is 87! Her mind is so sharp.

==

We rewatched The Shining this weekend. Never get tired of Kubrick. Another fucked-up genius. LOL.

I'll be watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show very soon for Halloween. I do it every year.

==

Also have Roadrunner: A Film about Anthony Bourdain; How to Survive a Plague (2012); and The Eyes of Tammy Faye in the pipeline.

I'm about to watch Midnight Mass....and we're up to ep3 of Foundation

a very interesting show we watched recently was "The Flight Attendant". A very complex story and my hubby was getting really bothered by "drunk Penny" (kaley cuoco from Big Bang Theory) but by the end, the show turned out to be pretty good.

You beat me (by a country mile) to it.

We're snowed under a plethora of documentaries, baking shows, and Mom, which we are binge watching.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mom_(TV_series)

Mom is very engaging, especially if you like sitcoms involving addicts/dipsomaniacs. (There's a lot of 12-stepping.)

cool. that gives me time to rewatch s01-02 so I even remember what the hell is going on.

I understand covid got in the way in; but it really annoys me that shows will take 1 to 2 years between seasons. I've gotten where for some shows now, I'm not even watching them in real time. I'd rather wait years till the shows are completed and then go back to watch through them without the huge gaps of time between seasons.

Love Star Trek, my favourite episode is "The City on the Edge of Forever". My Daughter does watch the newer Star Trek's, but I think it's because of Jonathan Frakes & Scott Bakula lol ;D  She calls me old for watching the original series.

so marrying my husband meant I also became part-owner to his huge DVD collection (Dude! stream that stuff), for which I built a set of beautiful 7ft tall corner shelves to house his personal "BlockBuster" store. While most are movies, there are quite a number of TV series that we have been going through watching one every night along with dinner.

I was very happy that recently we watched through "Teen Wolf". (hot shirtless boys or the show we regularly watched when we first started dating? i should say we're watched it for the second reason but clearly my Freudian slip shows what I really thing by listing the first item first. LOL)

Unfortunately now it was time for the husband to pick the next series we will watch through. I hoped for Dexter (I <3 that serial killer) or maybe "Spartacus" (umm, not hot shirtless boys, but hot naked men) ; but no such luck. For four mind-numbing episodes I've had to watch this "Vampire Diaries" drivel. (OMG is this like vampire 90210?) Oh no! And there's a ton of seasons!! Can't we just go back to the seventeen seasons of Supernatural? (ah! hot sexy men again. I'm sensing a pattern to my viewing preferences LOL)

Luckily, thanks to the joys of streaming, while hubby is away at work during the day, I will pretend I'm not wasting an hour every night watching that god-awful "VD" show, and replace that nonsense by catching up with last season of Doctor Who and that final season of Lost in Space. (I am so far behind. It's Winter here and I've been doing 1000 piece puzzles and, for some unknown reason after all these years of being a sci-fi fan, reading the hell outta a ton of M/M romance and paranormal romance novels. I can rip through one a day. Oh wait....hot sexy men again. LOL)

Bookshelves filled with DVDs here. Also, have tones of VHS tapes but no VHS player anymore, I took advantage when the video stores started to go out of business and bought loads of DVDs.

Funny you mention blockbusters, can't recall what we were watching but there was a mention of "BlockBusters" and she asked what that was so I had to explain it and what the experience was like before streaming. ;D

Have not watched the most recent Dr Who however, in the DVD collection this week we watched Dr Who - The Dalek invasion of earth (Not the movie but the TV show)  - 1964 with William Hartnell, the 1st Doctor.

Watched "Timeless" on Netflix this week. It's only 2 seasons but I really enjoyed it, if you like sci-fi and have not seen timeless yet I would recommend it.

Has anyone watched Elementary? It’s a retelling of Sherlock Holmes… only Sherlock is a drug addict and Watson (Lucy Lui) is his sober companion. I love it because of JLM but also the stories are fairly clever! Also I’d recommend Poker Face- silly premise that goes hard and all with a stellar cast! Not sure if either are on Netflix, but if I have to recommend one of their streaming series, I’m anxiously waiting for season 3 of Sweet Magnolias!

I’m currently binging Lewis. Oh and Miss Scarlet and the Duke 🤣

Netflix is literally the only streamer that I don’t currently subscribe to.

I'm going to take a gander at Sex Education to see what it's all about.
I still have to finish the last 2 episodes of The Fall of the House of Usher.

I can't believe we still have to wait until may for doctor who,
and I'm waiting on Mary&George. I'm not into "historical stuff" but it's got Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine with male nudity.  8)

I watched Sex Education a while back, and it was really good.

Yeah, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Netflix is literally the only streamer that I don’t currently subscribe to.

We have Netflix, Paramount, and, just for the holidays, Disney+. Disney sucks and isn't worth having the rest of the year.

Watched "Deadwater Fell" four part mini series last night on Netflix.

It's quite dark and stars David Tennant. I really enjoyed it and would say if you are into the crime/drama then this would be a good watch.

Okay, not sure the series I watched would be any good. There are a few visual bits without speaking.
Do you also like true crime?

don't like crime dramas; but Tennant is pretty great in Good Omens.
