;D ;D ;D ;D
Hey all,...
Ed and I are leaving in about 40 minutes. I can now apply for my Social security. I refuse to work until 66 for the full benefits !!
So, we will be heading down to Clearwater to the Social Security Administration building. I have an account created online with them, and can do this online, but I prefer to be there in person.
When Ed went a couple of months ago, it took him about 2 1/2 hours to get through the process. So, we're getting there, before the doors open and wait in line.
You can apply for these benefits 3 months before your 62nd birthday. I never would have thought back in 1985, that I would be around for this day, and I certainly never thought I would be around for this day in 2003, when I was so ill. But, I made it !
I plan on giving my two week notice at work around December 10th, and then I will officially be out of the workforce.
Everything has been calculated and recalculated. I know what I will be getting, and there won't be a problem. It will be a little tighter, but I know how to make ends meet, I've been pretty efficient that way.
Hopefully we will get through the process quickly this morning. I will let you know later
Ray ;D yeah!!!!

Congrats on the pending retirement. Back in the 80's, it was difficult to imagine ever achieving that milestone. If I make it another 13 years, I can finally start receiving retirement benefits that I paid in to. Thankfully, Bill convinced me to invest in the future rather than my closet. :o
Best wishes,

Thanks Guys ! 8)
It's all done ! There was a line of about 50 people outside the door, before it even opened today, at 9:00
The process moved quickly, and we were out of there by 10:15
I will get my first check in January !

Ray , welcome to the officially "retired" ranks... having those checks and access to the VA will provide a great way to let you just do what you want on your schedule....enjoy it...I sure do.

:D Thanks Nick, and thanks again everyone. It's going to nice, just to take it easy after all these years ! There hasn't been a time, that I haven't had a job, or sometimes two jobs at a time. I collected unemployment once in my life, and that was after I got out of the service, but after a month I got bored, and went right back to work.

Ray, I am so happy for you!
I have six more years before I can follow suit.
I have hemmed and hawed about it, but think the magic 62 will be my time to go for it.
Congratulations again!
HUGS,
Mark

Ray, I am so proud and happy for you that you MADE IT to retirement! WOO HOO. I know that is a fantastic feeling. I hope everything goes smoothly, and I hope you have a WONDERFUL retirement.
Some of us who never have had the chance to fulfill our careers or even to work at 'real jobs' are living vicariously through you guys who are able to WORK and then to RETIRE.
Congratulations, my friend.
HUGS, Alan

Also retired, and experiencing things being a little tighter. I took out a home owners line of credit to keep things going here at the house. Updating etc....but thats it in terms of "credit" . If I cant afford to pay cash for something, I dont buy it.
Happy retirement!
