Protected Sex With potentially high risk Girl? How High Of Risk?
« on: September 03, 2013, 05:42:47 pm »
Hi,

so basically I live in los angeles and met this Brazilian girl at a party who lives in Washington Dc and we had protected sex. I had no idea the hiv rate was so high in DC and this freaked me out. 1 oufrt of 20 women have it there the stats say? It seems from the stats it is mostly African American women that are infected in DC but she was bralizian she said and looked like she could be mixed with a little black maybe? I asked her later and she said no but to me it looks like she could.

Anyways we had protected sex but I was drunk and my erection was not strong. I am almost certain I did not have any condoms slip offs or anything. I do know I used 3 condoms because we had a long sex session and I noticed the condoms would get dry and I was afraid it would break. I took the condoms off without thinking and being careful so I could have gotten some fluids on me in the process.

I do not ever remember a condom slipping off or breaking. But I also didnt really inspect it well afterwards. Anyways I went soft a few times during intercourse but my condom was still on from what I remember. Well it at least covered half my penis for sure and I dont have any cuts on my penis which is good.

I also went down on her for like 20 mins and kissed her down there deeply and she was really wet. Honestly it was not a great experience because I was way too drunk. I also don't remember everything too well which makes me scared. But I remember when I first woke up feeling relieved my condom didnt slip off or break so thats a good sign. Its only when I started trying to remember every detail that I started worrying it could have came off without me knowing maybe. I also fingered her for say 20 mins and we had actual intercourse for around 30 mins (I think protected the whole time.)

So anyways I texted this girl later and asked her if she has been tested and she said she was in June and is clear. I asked her if she does drugs and she said no. But still the hiv rate in DC is so high it really worries me. I feel like I put myself at an extra risk just because of that. What are my risk here guys? I am really worried. Thanks

You can stop worrying. Nothing you are reporting of your activities would have put you at risk for HIV including getting her vaginal fluids on your body parts. Zip for risk.

Your head seems to be going haywire with all kinds of suppositions because of DC stats you think you know and race, etc., etc.

Cut it out. You used condoms. They provide very effective protection and if one had failed you would have known it because it's very obvious to the naked eye when that happens.

You don't need to get tested. We do advise anyone who is sexually active to at least annually if not every 6 months to have a full STD panel done. Other STDs are much easier to acquire than HIV. But as far as HIV is concerned I don't see any need for testing nor for further worry on your part. Really.

Thanks but lets say worst case secanerio. What if my condom did come off and since she lived in DC would my risk be a lot higher than say just a normal city? Thanks a lot :)

No, let's NOT say worst case scenario. We're not going to indulge you in conjecturing what MIGHT have happened.

In general the risk for the insertive partner is very much lower than it is for the receptive partner. That's true in any city.

If you can't let go of this unfounded fear then go ahead and get tested to collect the inevitable negative result. We're not going to get into an anxious back and forth with you about something that has more to do with fears and doubts than facts. And it is never about "high risk girls." It's what you do with the person and in this case I don't see that you really did anything risky except drink too much and had casual sex. That is a red flag so I strongly urge you to avoid that in the future.

There are not any high risk girls only high risk activity's . You post about trying to racially profile risk factors for HIV is foolish and more than a bit offensive .

You either had a risk or you didn't ... and you didn't . Use condoms consistently and correctly for vaginal and anal sex and you will avoid HIV no matter what the HIV status is of your sexual partners .

Thanks. I am not trying to racially profile but the news article I read says that in DC most hiv infections are African american girls. I just thought it was information that was needed to assess my risk. Sorry to offend anyone. Ok so let me ask this. If I had unprotected vaginal sex with a girl for 30 mins and she did in fact have hiv how high would my risk be?

IF you had a risk.... but you did NOT have a risk.

Look, you need to understand that most journalist know next to nothing about hiv. I totally disagree with them throwing epidemiological stats around like they meant something to Joe and Jane Blow on the street. They don't.

What the average person needs to know is NOT how many of what type of people are infected in any given area, they need to know that ANYONE can become hiv positive if they have unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse with someone of unknown hiv status.

It's not WHO you do, it's HOW you do it. Got that? It doesn't matter WHO you have sex with, it's using a condom (the HOW) with ANYONE that's important.

To think otherwise is to chance becoming infected with hiv. From what you've written, I have to wonder how many other women (girls are kids - hopefully you're not having sex with kids....) you've had intercourse with and never gave hiv a thought. If that's correct, you need to wise up.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
