Should I be worried?
« on: August 15, 2013, 10:16:56 pm »
Hi all,

I'm just concerned with an experience I had. I was getting a 90 minute massage. The massage was very rough and no lotions were used. The masseuse once nearly finished confirmed with me that she may be HIV positive. Once the massage finished I noticed several bursed pimples with blood flowing from one of them on my back. I looked at her hands and she had a rash on one hand and minor cut on a finger. Is it possible to contract HIV this way as I can't seem to get the notion out of my mind and worried as I'm havw a young family.
Thanks and Regards

Under no circumstances can you get HIV from a massage - unless that massage involved having unprotected anal or vaginal sex.

HIV cannot infect outside the host, so whether your pimples burst on her rash or the other way around, it makes absolutely no difference. Your experience might have been unfortunate, and assuredly an appetite suppressant, but in no way was it any imagineable risk for HIV.

Thank you for your quick response. Yes definitely an appetite suppressant and unwanted experience. Just one follow up question I'm regards to the small cut on her finger, could the HIV virus be transmitted from her superficial wound if it contacted my bursed pimples directly? Thanks again

HIV is NOT transmitted through superficial wounds or cuts or scrapes. It is a VERY fragile virus and can ONLY transmit INSIDE the human body. Please believe me, I am a moderator here who has spent over fifteen years researching transmission and prividing risk assessment - over ten of those years on this forum.

It is in your best interest to stayhealthy, and were there the slightest chance of infection/transmission I would urge testing (or PEP). Both for your sake for your family's sake, and for society as a whole.

You have had zero risk. Absolutely zero.

Hi and thanks again for easing my mind. I just want to ask are you suggesting that I should get tested for this experience or get PEP medication. We're currently overseas and this may be difficult medication to get. Other than this experience and the occasional massage I have no risks to HIV as I don't use needles or sleep around. Judy your last paragraph had me a bit worried.
Thanks again - peace

You did NOT have a risk so you do NOT need PEP . You do not need to test over this incident .

I am sorry you have trouble understanding my posts.

You had no risk.

You do not need to test.

Period.
