Changing Atripla to the morning , any advice?
« on: April 21, 2010, 08:21:51 pm »
after being on Atripla for the last year, and because my sleeping has turned into a pain in the brain ;D with dreams that make me feel that I was not sleeping but rather fighting, I decided to switch to the morning time, my question is :
How should I do it, should I skip the night dose and start tomorrow, I am undetectable btw
after one year will I face the dizzy feeling if I take it in the morning, I read that usually this feeling  stops after weeks of taking it, but I dont know , since I used to sleep immediatly after taking my pill

I would appreciate any recommendations
Thanks
I have to admit : the good thing is that from now on;  I have no option but to succeed , still its ok to worry :))

Welcome to the AM club. I take mine in the morning ... have done so since 2007.

So it can be done, as soon as you start very early -- usually around 6am, and then by 10am, you should be ok.  Do not eat either before or at least 2 hrs after the meds.

I advice you to slowly ease yourself into the routine:

-- 4am for the first day
-- 5am for the second day
-- 6am during the third day.

You will be fine.

Thanks,
So, you dont recommend taking it later than that early, say what if I woke up at 10? will the dizziness subside after certain time or no?

i take mine at night and know what you mean about feel like your fighting and not sleeping. I missed my first dose (started nov 09) two weeks ago so took it in the morning and there was no dizziness like i had in the early weeks i just felt a little bit stoned for maybe 3 or 4 hours . I am contemplating changing to mornings as well i think the best time to start would be a weekend to see how you feel. The good thing about atripla is also if you sleep in a little its not a problem if you take your pill a couple of hours later occaisionally.Let us no how you get on

Much better sleeping, I take them when I wake up, say at 8 , sometimes if I wake late I take hem when I wake up,  he only problem with morning pills is that if I wake up late if I have to wait long before my breakfast other wise I will feel dizzy...
but at least my sleeping is much better , no more crazy dreams  ;D

I take it when I wake up, first thing, even if wake then go back to sleep.

But generally, I take it when I get up.  Then about 30 minutes passes while I shower and dress, then eat breakfast.  I have now side effects at all.  Once recently I even took it right after breakfast and had no side effects.

As far as making the change, my doc suggested tow approaches:

- move it ahead 2 hours a day (so 26 hours between doses) till you get to the time you want

- or, move it back, so take on at night as normal, then again in the morning about 12 hours later

I chose the 2 hour increment.   The morning dose simply fits my routine better.  I also think I sleep better.

All this fiddling with +/- 2 hrs is unnecessary. I'd just choose a day and switch. After 5 days the drugs will be at a level where this is safe as a one-off if your viral load is under 50 copies.

There is of course no obligation to take Atripla/efavirenz at night on an empty stomach, it's just a suggestion. It will work regardless.

I read somewhere that the tolerance time for Atripla is +-8 hours, ...
So I did switch to the morning and I do think its much better for me,  of course the ideal situation would be no meds at any time but ehh ;D
