Stabbed with needle or something sharp
« on: January 04, 2016, 12:31:20 pm »
Hello i have read some much conflicting information online and heard this is the site to contact.  In the early hours of new years day while walking down the high street i noticed a homeless man and he didn't seem ok. i thought maybe he was hurt or something. anyway i helped him off the floor and helped him to sit down outside a shop.

after doing this and he said he was ok, i gave him a kind of friendly touch on the head with my hand. straight away i noticed he had blood on his head. the tips of my fingers felt a bit wet and i wiped my hand on my clothes straight away.  it felt like maybe a burst open sore or something similar because it was also a bit sticky.  i didn't think much of it until i got in the taxi and went home. when i got home i looked at my hand and didn't see any blood from what i can remember.  i washed them with soap and water.

i woke up the next day and my anxiety kind of kicked back in. i wondered if i might of had any cuts on my hands. i don't think i did but around this time of year my hands do get fairly dry but i don't think i had any cracked skin.  a good few hours later i went and put vodka on my hand to see if i may have had any cuts without noticing.  i didn't feel any pain whilst doing it so I'm assuming my hands were intact. even then it was quite a long time after the incident so i still remained worried.

a lot of websites on the internet said it could be a risk. some said it was no risk.  some said chipped/dry hands is a risk. some sites say it would only be a risk if i had a big gaping wound.  another site said even intact skin is very very low risk.

I then put a post on a website which and they said my situation was no risk but it didn't give me relief because a lot of the information on the website to me seemed contradictory.

i know i have anxiety and have tested before twice in my life after 1 low risk exposure.  as i was just feeling better and getting over my worries this happened. its brought back my anxiety even worse than before.

I've heard this site is recommended and after reading quite a bit of information on hear i believe this could be the site to say it exactly how it is.

i would be grateful if someone could tell me is my situation NO RISK?. also some more information for future knowledge would be great?.  I dread having to wait another long time for a test because i know it won't help my anxiety.  i just want and need the facts?. A big thank you to who ever can help me. i feel it can be a touchy subject and i don't want to offend anyone but my mind is a mess after trying to just do a good deed.

thanks to who ever can help..

You did not have a risk. I will give you the real deal and then you can move on from this no risk incident. As long as you use condoms for anal and vaginal sex and do not share IV drug syringes with an infected person you will avoid HIV. Thats it, it’s really that simple.

Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in UNPROTECTED anal or vaginal intercourse where the virus never leaves the confines of the two bodies. Once hiv finds itself outside the body, small changes in temperature, and pH and moisture levels all quickly damage the virus and render it unable to infect.

If you had a large fresh gushing wound and ground it into the open busing wound of a person living with HIV there could be a problem but this just does not happen in the real world. You need not fear getting HIV from touching people.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI.Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you did not have a risk and do not need to test for this specific incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

hello sorry its me again but i have just one more question regarding my incident if you would be able to help me.  If i rubbed my eye with my hand after this would that be considered a risk?. Its because now i think of it i was very tired at the time and i do rub my eyes quite a lot.  Was the virus inactive the moment it was on my hand and if i then rubbed my eye would it matter?.  Thank you.

Hi , You have had no risk , The virus is damaged and unable to infect once exposed to air. It did not matter if you rubbed you eye.

Hello its me again and i apologise in advance.  Yesterday i saw blood on my finger and licked it. Then i realised this blood wasn't mine.  Is this no risk for HIV and other blood borne diseases?. I may know the answer but just need reassurance to be honest. Just freaked me out because i don't know where it came from.

Hi Again,
Getting a blow job is not risk for HIV.  No one has ever been infected this way
since the epidemic began and you will not be the first.
Not one single documented case !
It doesn't matter what scenario you come up with ...No Risk....period
It is safe for you to move on

Ok thank you one more question I'm confused about . If semen got onto my hand during a mutual encounter and i rubbed the end of my penis with that hand could it transmit that way. I'm not just making up questions this did happen . Would there have to be a large amount for this to happen and would it need to happen very quickly . I hope I'm explaining myself ok . Just not to sure how to explain the situation . Thanks .

HIV is an extremely fragile virus and does not survive exposure to air, so it is virtually impossible for you to have been infected this way.  You have not had a risk, as  Wade has mentioned.  Please stop torturing yourself and move on.

I don't want to keep asking and I know the virus dies once exposed to air but it was almost immediate and I masturbated with the same hand straight away . Does that make any difference ?

At least 4 times by 4 different mods it has been explained to you.

HIV isn’t transmitted by hugging, shaking hands, sharing toilets, sharing dishes, kissing, through saliva, tears, or sweat. HIV can not reproduce outside a human host and does not remain infectious outside the human body, once hiv finds itself exposed outside the body, small changes in temperature, pH / moisture levels all damage the virus and render it unable to infect.

I say this from a point of kindness as you just need to move on now and stop focusing/stressing about HIV, if you post about the same again it will lead to a ban, seek face to face support to help you if you can not let go of this irrational fear.

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Ill explain it the long way round for you, however as said on my post above don't ask the same question again and seek support. It is not healthy to have fears all the time, talk to someone but we can not help you in this setting.

Nobody has been infected by HIV from spillage (contact outside the human body)  and this makes sense going back to basics for a moment HIV has an outer protein/receptors that is needed to remain infectious and they corrode on contact with air, so it can no longer infect. Also HIV needs a route to infect, so damaged HIV means no risk, and no route means no risk anyway. Its that simple really I mean it.

This even poses a great problem to study it, and laboratory studies such as the ones at the CDC labs have to use unnaturally high and artificial laboratory-grown concentrations under precisely controlled and limited laboratory conditions to even study it, as it normally simply does not survive long in outside the body.  (Ask a lab how they do it, if you want to know more on how they artificially grow HIV as that part is beyond me)

Now the fact that in labs they can keep HIV viable outside the body has caused some people to misunderstand this to mean environmental risk is possible. This is not the case as the labs use artificial conditions and concentrations of HIV many times greater than than anything ever found in patient specimens, the amounts of virus studied are simply not found in nature, and again no one has been infected with HIV this way.

For transmission to occur biological conditions needs to be right and for HIV, it needs to be present for it to be a risk and in sufficient quantity for it to transmit, it also than needs an effective route, and it must also reach cells which are susceptible to infection.

In short nothing you posted was a risk. Seek face to face support to help you if you can not let go of this irrational fear, but do not post the about or the same question/risk again.

The mods are volunteers who give their own time to do risk assessments. Your assessment has been completed and it is time for you to move on.

Sorry to be back. I was in a bar on the weekend and someone bumped into me. I was quite drunk but felt like a little scratch on my left leg below my hip bone. I thought nothing of it. Thinking it was a scratch from a watch or something. The next day I woke up and in the same place I had what seemed like a spot. It looked a bit like a white head spot. It was sore when I tried to pop it. Now I'm thinking it could have been a needle poke. This same person nearly bumped into me a few times before now I think of it. He always kept coming near me looking at me. Yes probably paranoid but the situation was too weird for my liking. A needle mark wouldn't look like a spot would it? Would it be sore also?

You had no risk, you simply have irrational fear and we can not help you in this setting any further - Seek face to face support if you keep having fears like this so that you can move on with your life.

If you were stabbed by a needle you would have known about it and if you truly believe you have been sharing needles go see a doctor.

Someone bumped into you, its not a risk and if you had truly been stabbed by a needle you would have known about it, bad angle and movement would have hurt badly.

Do not post about this again - move on with your life.

Has anything like this ever happened. It wouldn't leave a mark like an acne spot would it? Like white on top. And I get you say I would have felt it. I felt something but was drunk . I get it though about the needle thing. It would be almost impossible to pull one out in a crowded bar and stick it into someone. I get it's mental but just completely messed up. Had fears before obviously and long forgot about them until that evening out.
