Medical Marijuana?
« on: July 28, 2017, 07:15:13 am »
Hi All, I just want to ask if anyone ever tried using as an alternative meds? I have read many articles about medical marijuana and how it can help you in terms of chronic pain, glaucoma, eating disorder/anorexia, anxiety disorders and panic attacks, inflammation, even cancer and a lot more. Cbd and thc are also new to me and I don't even smoke. If this is true I cant find any solid conclusive evidence that speaks to its efficacy. Any personal experience or testimonial would be highly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum

Perhaps you could introduce yourself to the forum, how long you have been living with HIV, how are you recent test results and what HIV treatment are you on?

On the marijuana, Perhaps if you are more specific why you want to use, instead of asking us why we use it than the members can share more specific information to your situation.

In the mean time I removed your link and when we know more we can give you some better referencs than some blogger.

as an alternative meds
alternative to what?
to ARVs? Nope. Only antiretrovirals keep HIV in check
to pain meds? Nope. while marijuana can help with pain (and nausea), it's no miracle cure for anything and not as powerful as many FDA approved medications for ailments.

I cant find any solid conclusive evidence that speaks to its efficacy.
because marijuana has been deemed a prohibited substance for many many years, unfortunately, little medical research has been done until recent years, so there is still little evidence about it efficacy as a medication for anything. Hopefully this situation is changing and future studies will provide us more information about what marijuana can and cannot do for medical conditions.

i smoke cannabis daily

cannabis is not an alternative to HIV meds, it does not affect viral replication

cannabis can be an effective palliative and therapeutic relief for the symptoms of HIV/AIDS

at best, clinical research is lacking and mostly anecdotal

I told my ID doctor that I was smoking weed to help me sleep and he asked me if I was still taking my bactrim which I was not.. he told me that i should take the bactrim bc my cd4's were low and that I risked getting pcp in my lungs again by smoking weed..

It made a lot of sense to me so I stopped smoking the weed.

There are dispensaries open all over Massachusetts now , they have lots of edibles, olive oils and such to cook with. The prices are way cheaper than on the street and they deliver ...life is good  :)

it is also legal to have up to an ounce for recreational use.

PSA for anyone trying cannabis for the first time

please be cautious using oils, edibles, extracts and concentrates. they have much higher levels of THC. people are turning up in ERs thinking they've overdosed (they haven't, it's damn near impossible) when really they're just too stoned and freaking out

those statistics paint us in a negative light and are being used against legalization efforts

go slow, find your tolerance, then push the limits

and for god's sake, don't go doing dabs of shatter your first time... that's like giving a lambo to 16 yr old for their drivers test

I have a sweet tooth, so Brownies will do. Seriously I do get the odd batch here despite it being "slightly" illigal in Ireland

I have recently re-discovered the herb via vaping. Supposedly much healthier than smoke. Different high, more gradual and mellow. And i must admit, has made sleeping fun again!
I recommend it!

I've been cautious with weed ever since passing out in the middle of the street in Amsterdam many years ago on a particularly lively night out.

I think my tolerance to it is quite low, so it tends to blow my head off a bit.

Uppers have always been my drugs of choice in the past, as I prefer the increased energy and focus to seeing shit and suddenly not being able to feel my legs etc.

Not that I'm suggesting speed or coke as a viable choice for pain relief, by the way...!
