Title: Testing 3 or 6 months
Post by: tommy246 on November 20, 2009, 12:55:36 pm
Just wandering are there many people with successfull haart treatment that now only test every 6 months instead of every 3 months , assuming that there are no financial reasons involved.

Mim was every 6mths.  Since changing doctors, she's been every 2mths.  Makes me crazy, actually.  Our next appointment with him is in January (3mths from October), but he wants her blood work done in December (only 2mths).  Previously, we did her blood work and saw him at the 2mth mark.  In January, I'm hoping he'll let us start doing every 3 or 4mths between labs.  I'm not holding my breath, though.

Tommy,

Nothing has changed for me. I still go once every 3 months, and have since late 2003. It's never even been suggested by my current doctor, to change the 3 month schedule at this point.

I test every six months and I'm very comfortable with it. In fact, I suggested we go to every six months with my doctor and he agreed. I'd be comfortable with once a year.

Wait until you have a viral breakthrough one month after your last lab draws and get back to me :) [LTS-lite]

Don't worry bitch, you'll be the first to know. :P However, let me offer this caveat before all the Chicken Little's start freaking out. My decision to test every six months was done after consultation with the ID doc I've seen for twelve years. Personally, I'd be comfortable testing every year, but that's just me. Hopefully, anyone making this type of decision would do so only after discussing it with their doctor. (Mega-LTS)

Actually when I go see my HIV specialist after Thanksgiving it will have been five months, but that's only because he was a slacker and cancelled my normal 4 month visit due to going to a conference.  Just 4 years ago I was still going once a month, even more when when I was getting injections in my ass for testosterone.  Yep, once a month dammit for an entire 13 years.

Suffer the children, I say.

for nearly a decade, ten long years, I had blood work every 6 weeks.
It's been awfully nice finally getting to UD after all these years.
Now for the last two years I've been having it done every 3 months, and I find myself missing my doctor and all those techs at the hospital where my blood was drawn. It was kinda nice having to explain my seeming absence to them when I did go in after those long stretches those first couple times. Of course, they thought perhaps I had finally died from all this; so it was nice explaining that the long periods between were actually because I was doing better.

I'm told every 3-4 months.

My doctor said three or four months after my last visit, so I'm going four.  My numbers on HAART have been pretty steady - if a little disappointing - so I feel safe trying it.

I have had my CD4s and viral loads done about every six months.

I have had to have my lipids checked more often.

Comes with the territory.

HUGS,

Mark
