blood test
« on: December 20, 2007, 03:03:30 am »
Hi,

i was out for a blood test for HIV at a VCTC. mostly all the patients around me HIV positive. is there a possibility that i can acquire HIV through a needle used on me for a blood test. basically they use vacutainers. the needle did not have visible blood whch could be seen through naked eyes. they mention about occupational risk and IV drug users in respect to needles and other sharp instruments. has any body ever got infected like this? like i said blood was drawn out and i did not see blood on the surface. m worrying because the technician did not unpack the needle in front me although it had a cap on it. can you tell me if i am at risk? will appreciate immediate help. thanks

somebody please reply

Not a chance, recycling needles; that's the stuff of over worked minds.

Obviously not.

And I'm sure that 411 is about to suggest that you take the time to read our Welcome Thread and follow the links to our Lessons to learn more about how HIV is and is not transmitted.

No risk, no need to test and Matty beat me to the Welcome Thread.

Phlebotomists will dispose of the needle right after it has been usd into  a sharps container..mainly for their own safety and protection, and beleve me needles are never re-used.

Move on. You didn't have a risk and you don't need to retest. See your doctor for your stiff neck and other symptoms. They have nothing to do with HIV.

What part of you didn't have a risk is it, that you don't understand? If you are having trouble walking see your doctor. This is not an HIV concern.

You're not listening. Instead you are just misinterpreting everything you feel physically through a mindset of HIV jitters. For what reason I don't need to know but it has no basis in HIV science.

Go see your doctor about your physical problems. This is NOT an HIV situation.

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Do you understand the above?

We've already told you that you weren't at risk. That hasn't made one bit of difference to you. Instead you just come back with more BUT BUT BUT about your symptoms, symptoms which of course only YOUR mind have something to do with HIV. It is not our job to hold your hand everytime you have another scary (hysterical) thought about your symptoms, your fatigue, your whatever. We've done what we can do for you here. Your fears are unwarranted. You're convincing me it's time for you to see a therapist or other mental health professional to deal with your issues.

See your doctor about your symptoms.

Last warning. If you come back with more of the same you're going to get a 30 day time out. This is NOT an HIV situation. Period

You weren't at risk so it doesn't matter when you test. You'll collect a negative result.

You're still insisting on making your situation into something related to HIV when it has nothing to do with that, no matter what symptoms you have.

Go see your doctor and find out what the real cause is because it's not HIV. If you come back with more of the same I'm giving you a time out. No kidding.

hi rapidrod and andy.

I must say you guys have been extremely helpful in all ways. i have definately managed to make myself get o'er the scary incident.I wont deny from saying that there's yet some fear at the back of  my head. i am sure you guys come across a lot of me kinda people and that you guys know what we go through...the mental strom!

the reason i am writing today after a month is to some advice again on that dreadful episode of mine. I have my wedding date set for next month. my concern is that can I go ahead with a free mind and hear my wedding bells or should i drop the idea? i don't want to mean to spoil some one else's life for a brief happiness. I would be hihgly obliged if you guys for the last time. Please consider me as your sister/daughter; but help. Will await..your blessings and advice.

Thanks
God Bless

sareena,

What part of YOU DID NOT HAVE A RISK don't you understand? You ARE hiv negative!

I'm giving you that time out you've been warned about. Do not attempt to create a new account to get around your time out because if you do, you will be permanently banned.
