Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Should I consider PEP?

Hi

I tried to have protected insertive anal sex with another guy tonight. Tried being the operative, because I didn't have any lube on hand and he said it hurt too much as I tried to penetrate. Anyway, since that didn't work out, I gave oral sex and casually fingered him.

The problem is, he and I realized after that he had anal bleeding. There was dried blood on the two of my fingers and I'm a little concerned that the blood might have come into contact with my penis after I removed the condom.

Still, at no point was there any unprotected insertive anal sex. While he assured me that he's HIV negative, I'm still a little concerned as there was blood involved. Based off this exposure, do you think that I'm at risk of transmission?

Thanks for taking the time to go through this. I have never had this happen, so I'm just a little anxious.

Nothing you mention is a risk for HIV infection.  HIV is a very fragile virus that is damaged immediately when it leaves the host and the risk of transmission is when the virus never leaves the bodies of the two people.  You have not had a risk and you do not need to test over this incident.

Hi

Thanks for the quick reply. Is there no chance that the blood from his rectum on my fingers and nails could transmit HIV? I have no open cuts or sores, but I didn't realize and wash the blood away till at least 10 mins after. That's really the only thing that concerns me.

Anyway, the rest of your post is really reassuring and is much appreciated. Thanks again!
