Melasma & HIV

HAs anyone else had problems with melasma while HIV positive? I have it on my face and was wondering if anyone HIV positive had this problem.

I think this is one of those things that is generally not affected by hiv. Anyone can get melasma. It's particularly common in pregnant women, and it can take a bit of time after the birth for it to fade. Pregnant women who get a lot of sun are more prone to it. Genetics also play a large part in who might get melasma.

Thyroid disease increases the chance of getting melasma - and hiv positive people are more prone to thyroid problems. (This is the only possible tie-in to hiv I can think of.) You might want to ask your doctor to run the standard tests to check your thyroid is functioning as it should.
