I have stayed at the Chelsea hotel on 23rd( a little more than 150, I think), and another place was Hotel 17, on 17th. Tiny little room , but worth the price (under 150) butt hese were weeknights, before Dr appt (when I used to go to Callen_Lorde).

What's a Black Party?

Oh my god...the Chelsea Hotel....the only time I visited NYC was 5 years ago with a buddy and I did my homework on line and found the so-called "famous" Chelsea Hotel...a place with a history indeed!  It also is a place where the steam traps in the heating system make a horendous clanging sound all through the night.  I thought someone had lost their mind and was banging on the pipes with a hammer in the middle of the night.  SOOOO that is why I am doing more homework this time around....

Longislander I DO appreciate the feedback....did you stay at the Chelsea during the winter or summer?  The rooms are huge so it would be a good warm weather choice...and the Black Party is the leather scene weekend much like MAL in Washington DC, IML in Chicago, or CLAW in Cleveland.

We usually stay at the SoHo Grand which reminds me of someplace that Batman would hang out for cocktails,  definitely got the 'Gotham Chic ' thing going on.
The location is perfect, and the rooms are pretty well done.

The Black Party and the White Party have run on holiday weekends, such as President's since the time of the Saint on 2nd Avenue between 7th Street and St. Mark's.  Dress is as you might imagine it to be.

I would suggest the Chelsea Savoy which is at the corner of 7th Avenue and 23rd, on top of the 7th Avenue line.  There are two b and b's in Chelsea, one on 22nd off Eighth.  I honestly would never, ever suggest that someone stay in Midtown unless he had to do so.  Chelsea allows you to come home in black attire and fit in.  If you know your way around NYC, black would also work in the East Village and prices tend to go down as you go below 14th if you avoid SOHO.

I would be better with this if I hadn't left the city in 2003.  Best, Win

I would do a search on Hotels.com or another similar site.  Find the hotels in the area that meet your criteria, THEN call the hotel directly.  Often times, you get better rates on NYC hotels by calling them directly.

The only hotel in the mid-town area I found for $150 was a Day's Inn.  I would splurge the extra money to get a clean hotel.   I always stayed at the Iroquois hotel which was James Dean's home in the 50's before he died.  It's really nice.  Might be a bit pricey though.

Avoid the Paramount Hotel on 42nd Street since the rooms are, how do I say this  small since my closet is larger than the room I had.

Hey guys....Thanks for the feedback....I've been using the various travel sites and it looks like a nice room is gonna be in the $200-250 range....I don't want to take a chance that comes with a bargain room..... I'm looking at a B & B on 23rd(www.innon23rd.com)....I checked this place out the last time I was in NYC and it really is nice for about $250 and it's a great location in Chelsea....we shall see!

Be Well...

Craig, the one I can't remember the name for is on West 22nd between Eighth and Ninth (I only passed it every day for a year. :(  The owner used the building to found GMHC.  (He lives on site.)  So it's a gay b and b like Incentra House.  Best, Win
