This has been a great week for ADAP in SC. On Wednesday, the SC HIV/AIDS Care Crisis Task Force held it's Advocacy Day 2012. This year instead of our regular rally begging/demanding funding, we spent all day delivering Thank You cards and Fact Sheets to our state Senators and Representatives. The House quickly and easily passed a budget that included $4.6 million dollars recurring (for four years) and another $1 million for this year. So far the Senate hasn't done anything to change that. Although it's still not enough, that was an awesome outcome considering they have wanted to totally defund the program the last few years. So we signed hundreds of thank you cards, "invaded" the Senate and House office buildings, and flooded their offices with cards and fact sheets.
Then today the new figures came out and our waiting list has ZERO clients!!! WooHoo!

Although I can't forget to mention the 3 people in 2006 and the 1 person in the past year (2011) who all lost their lives to AIDS while on the SC ADAP waiting list, hopefully with the money in the budget this year (thanks to Governor Nicki Halley's push last year) and the $5.6 million for next year (that the House put into the budget right up front), hopefully SC is done with it's waiting list for a while. ;)
