I had my uterus removed, so thankfully even if these morons put asinine laws into place, they won't apply to me. Although I had a doctor once do a pregnancy test on me AFTER I'd had the hysterectomy! What a dolt!

Go women!

From the article about the Alabama bill:

Under the measure, physicians and technicians who failed to administer the ultrasound prior to an abortion could still face up to 10 years in prison and a $15,000 fine. The bill does not provide exceptions for rape an (sic) incest and would allow “the woman, the father of the fetus or the grandparents to sue the physician for “actual and punitive damages.” Critics also charge that the provision would permit “a rapist to sue a doctor who aborted his victim’s baby.”

Rachel Maddow did a bit this week about how when the Republicans move to the far right, everything moves right.  Also in the past decades, US Presidents are further to the right then the last President of the same party.  Eg Obama is further to the right than Clinton.  Republican congressmen, same. Supreme Court Justices, same.  But not Democratic congressmen.

I don't understand how state legislatures have become places where white men can propose such stupid legislation and have it be taken seriously.  Or, has this always been the case?

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Texas passed a similar bill last year.  I believe Texas dropped the "invasive" sonogram procedure, as Alabama has, but it's a sonogram nonetheless.  The law says that the physician must verbally describe the fetus.  Then the woman has to come back for a separate appointment no less than 24 hours later to have the abortion, or she has to have the sonogram again.  It's like a game of "Simon Says" and I think it treats women terribly.

Alabama's proposed bill allows the mother, father or grandparents to sue the physician for "actual and punitive damages" if the ultrasound is not administered?  What "actual" damages could these parties have for failing to to administer the sonogram.  It's rubbish, and basically an intimidation tactic.

I cannot understand how a group of men think they know what's best for women.  They're trying to make it an impossible choice for the woman...if I see the actual child, I will not want to "get rid" of it.

Having utilized the right to choose, if I would have been forced to have a sonogram I do not know if I would have made the choice I did.  Of course, this would have meant I would have had a drug addicted baby, had it taken away by CPS, then said child would have become the financial responsibility of taxpayers.  And on and on.

If only these people who believe they "know what's right" for all women would go through the agonizing decision themselves, perhaps they would not be so ridiculous.  It's not something ever taken lightly, and can leave scars that take quite a while to go away, if ever.  I could go on and on, but you all get the picture.  "Keep your laws off my body!"

Pessimist in me says the right to sue is if the fetus is aborted yet the sonogram wasn't done.
