Hi guys,

I have been reading the forum for some time now and decided to join.
I was tested positive three months ago and still recovering. Have been mentally really down, all my plans that I had went into pieces. I was supposed to move to Asia and start new adventure, had to cancel everything.
My initial result was CD4  385 and viral load 11800 as of 22.02. On 20.03 my CD4 went up to 412 and viral load went down to 29/ UD. I am on Truvada /one pill per day/ and Isentress /two pills per day/, no major side effects. Has anyone been on these pills?
Trying to continue with my life the best way possible. I have spent a lot of time reading your posts and there are a lot of encouragement in them. Let's be strong an optimistic!

I'm sorry to read of your recent diagnosis, but glad you found this site and have already found some comfort here.  Please continue to use this site for support, encouragement, and education.

You will be fine, as long as you adhere to your antiretroviral regimen.  You can attain all your goals in life, so there's really know reason for you to abandon your adventures to Asia (maybe just postpone them until your are undetectable and stable).

Sorry to hear about the diagnosis but glad to hear things are going well treatment wise and you are UD already.

Okay cancelling sucks, I'm not sure where in Asia you had planned your new adventure but is it not possible to revisit this plan down the line or adjust the plan to a different Asian country?

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately no one is allowed to work in education field in China with HIV. Apparently they are pretty stricked with it. I am now thinking about Japan or South Korea as these countries do not require to provide information about one's HIV status.
I would be grateful if anyone could share any information about it, especially about South Korea as they changed that rule just last year and they are mixed information in the net about the documents required for the visa.
I am also waiting for my next month visit at the clinic. If my doctor says that I can fly, I will start dealing with it.

Perhaps it still has old information, but http://www.hivtravel.org lists South Korea as not permitting residence for anyone with HIV. I'd certainly check closely that any new regulations are watertight before planning there.

There are plenty of asian countries with no restrictions on HIV though - Japan, Hong Kong (if you really wanted china, this may be an option), Vietnam, Thailand...

Thailand isn't a problem for HIV+ , being a teacher, and getting medicine cheaply.  One drug in your combo is expensive here, so you would probably change it out. 

I know several people who came here from Korea (but several years ago) when S Korea was kicking HIV+ foreigners out.
