This is Maggies Daughter Waiting on Western Blot
« on: May 31, 2008, 11:05:35 pm »
I am waiting on "admin approval" so that I can post under new name jodijavagirl76.  I am the Poster "Maggie's youngest daughter Jodi, although she hasnt posted for a bit due to the forums merging.

I had not felt well for quite some time, Was hospitalized a month or so ago and some tests came back abnormal.   (Actually they had been for a few years but I chose to ignore it)

I went in last week for a complete  run up, they did an Elisa Test, called me back and wanted a new blood draw for a Western Blot.

My mom has been Poz for many years, but this is still very very scary.

I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone..............

I am assuming the Western Blot is a confirmatory test???      ???     Scary Stuff.

I am a 31yr old straight female living in IL in a small town that dosent have a whole lot of options.

PS............My mom "Maggie" says Hi to all her old friends.......... :)

Just wondering who all is out there tonight.

ZOMG Maggie? :)

Hi Jodi,

It's Matty here. Give me regards to your mum. Long time no whatsit and all that. ;D

I'm sure that one of the Mods will approve your account in the next few hours.

Look, a Western Blot is a confirmatory test that's performed after a positive ELISA test. If the WB test is positive then you've gone and gotten yourself an official diagnosis of HIV. But let's fret about that when it happens.

It may be that one of the Moderators moves this thread to Someone I Care About or even Am I Infected until we know what's going on, so don't freak if your thread is suddenly somewhere else.

Hi Jodi,

I've moved your thread to the Am I forum because we have a strict policy of having people who have not been confirmed positive post only in this forum.

There are some autoimmune illnesses that can cause false positive ELISAs, as well as pregnancy. So, until you get that WB confirmation we cannot assume you are indeed positive. Hopefully, you're not. If you want to know more about the various tests, please read the Welcome Thread and click on the Testing Lesson link.

I confirmed an account for you yesterday under the name of "maggiesdaughter". You have not yet gone to the confimation email you were sent to complete the registration process. If you prefer to use the name "jodijavagirl76", I can approve that one and disable the first as we only allow ONE account per person here. You might have to look in your spam folder for the confirmation email.

Good luck with your confirmatory testing - hopefully this is just a false alarm.

Please tell your mom I said hello - and tell her to get back posting here, I miss her!
