Title: Seeing red, not mad, I mean blood!
Post by: skeebo1969 on July 01, 2006, 11:12:13 am

The past two days when I get out of bed I have been suffering really bad nausea. As soon as I got out of bed I had to use the bathroom.   I am seeing what appears to be blood..  When I wipe it definitely looks like blood..  If it is red like that it would mean that its not coming internally right?  It has to be a hemorrhoid right?  I always thought if your bleeding inside it would show up as black in your stool or some kind of oily stool.   I am just a little worried because the nausea seems to preclude it and I have been having low energy..

Anybody know about these things?  Help!

Thomas

Thomas,

Depends on where the blood is coming from.  Blood from "higher up," i.e. stomach, upper intestine might manifest itself as the traditional "dark, tarry stool," whereas fresh, red blood usually means there is some type of bleed going on lower in the digestive tract, e.g. colon, rectum, anus.

In any case, it's nothing to disregard.  May just be hemorrhoids or it may not.  Espcially if you are feeling weak.  Get yourself to a doctor my friend and have him/her check things out.

Take care,
John

I was afraid someone would say  go to the doctor....  It may just be a hemorrhoid.  I'll see if it happens again...

Hey, that's my standard answer any more these days.

I put off seeing mine for the longest time, and got a screwed immune system in the process.  Best not to fuck around with these things if something can be done  :)

Honestly? I'd get in touch with a doctor if I was you. Seeing blood, feeling nauseated. Those are two troubling symptoms, and better safe than sorry.

I'd go see the doctor.  Better to get it taken care of now if it's serious than wait.

I have the same problem and went to see a specialist and it turned out to be just hemmorhoids.    If the blood is bright red, it's probably just something that simple, but it is better to be sure.

The accompanying nausea is not normal of hemorrhoids. You need to see a doctor!

One evening about ten years ago I noticed a little blood when I wiped.  I phoned my doctor and he told me to go to the ER and get checked.  The doctor at the hospital suspected it was localized bleeding but admitted me overnight for observation anyway.  I hate the hospital but I complied.  About 3 am I woke up.  I didn't know where I was.  My stomach was bloated like a beach ball.  I was hallucinating a bit.  I realized where I was and rang for the nurse.  She seemed irritated and insisted I take a sleeping pill.  I took the pill with a bit of water.  As soon as I tried to swallow I began to vomit blood.  Then blood started coming out the other end.  Everything went black.  I woke up a bit later and saw a clock on the wall.  I was in surgery and it was 4 am.  I blacked out again and woke up a few days later in intensive care.  My whole family was there, crying.  Out I went again for another day.  I spent a whole week in there.  No more boilermakers and aspirin the day after for me.

Seems I had a blood vessel rupture in my stomach.  If I recall I received 5 blood transfusions and was thought gone a couple times.

Please, call your doctor or get to the hospital fast...

I want to see if it happens again tomorrow morning.  It only did it yesterday morning and this morning.  If it happens tomorrow morning I will go.  The nausea only happens when I am waking up...  with a little dizziness.

A friend of mine has the same problems. Also to make it worse, he takes lots of asprin, which makes bleeding worse. He is hiv+ since 1993 and on meds since 1995. He too had the lack of energy due to so much blood loss. It made him feel weak and sick. I dont know if you take asprin or ibprofin, but I'd lay off it for awhile to let things heal (if you do). Anyway, that was his problem and he did love his asprin, but had to stop. Take care... Glad you got to a doc to check things out.

Tom,

I'm glad you were able to get to the bottom of the problem.   ;D  I know what you mean about embarrassing.  Having someone examine you there sucks.  But better you find out that problem now than before it gets too out of control.
