Given that you had a low to no risk exposure to begin with, that the average time to seroconversion is 22 days and all but the smallest number of those who are going to seroconvert will do so within 4-6 weeks after an exposure, your negative test result is more than just encouraging. I expect you will continue to test negative.

As for other STDs, have you had any symptoms which suggest you picked up anything? What did your doctor say when you went for the various tests?

It sounds like you're just super anxious and your head is just messing with you.

Kiliani,

You were told repeatedly in your thread in the old forum (http://www.aidsmeds.com/Fusetalk/messageview.cfm?catid=4&threadid=30990&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE=) that your 10.5 week negative is highly unlikely to change.

As for the tests you did with the urologist, without knowing what he specifically tested for we have no way of knowing if you need further testing. You need to ask the doctor who ran the tests.

hi andy

first thanks for taking the time to answer my question and i really appreciate it .... the reason i went to see this doctor is that a while ago i had pain in mytesticles  .... he did these tests and said theres no problem but when i looked at the test report they didnt say example chlamidia neg ... it said no bacteria etc.... my question will stds show from these tests the doctor said yes ...but iwant your opinion on this.... i still have pain in my neck and undermy armpit .... also when i went to pick up my 10.5 neg elisa the doctor at the lab asked when my last exposure was and i explained everything in detail .. he said it could be psychological or something else very unlikely to be hiv...........please i live ina very conserrvative society and sex here is very much frowned upon .... thats why i might travel next door to these tests .... if i need to .... beleive me andy a person who is diagnosed with hiv in this place would be lucky to be left alone let alone keep their job or even live normaly....

thanks

Kiliani,

The doctor knows what tests he ran on you, we don't. We cannot give you an opinion when we don't have the facts. If I were you, I'd believe your doctor.

And stop worrying about hiv. Your 10.5 week test isn't going to change.

Kiliani,

I have never seen a study that would prove or disprove the theory on young age making a person seroconvert quicker. I do know, however, that the vast majority of people of ANY age will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks.

Let us know when you get your confirmatory negative result.

Honey,

If you're feeling paranoid (technically an unrealistic fear of persecution, but whatever) then you need to seek help far more comprehensive than what we can give you here. I mean take a look at your last question, "3 seconds of penetration" and "2 centimetres" -- really? If you have the details down that concisely then I wonder why you need us?

Seek the services of a mental health professional.

Kilani, you just seem to continue listening to scary stuff your mind is coming up with and sifting everything through an HIV jitters mentaility. As long as you continue to indulge in that behavior it doesn't seem to make any difference what we tell you.

After a negative at 10.5 weeks, you're all but guaranteed to continue to test negative.

Any questions about symptoms and other test information should be directed to your doctor.

You need to make a serious effort to re-focus your attention on staying productively busy during the rest of your waiting time.

I'll never be as nice as Andy, Ann and the other one but that's part of my charm babe. I guess I'm just a mean old misanthrope. Nevertheless, I have to say that if you really are so concerned about your health and that of your family, you'd follow Andy's advice and take this up with your doctor.

hi everyone,

i just spoke to my doctor and told him about my recent tests ... his conclusion was that he sees no reason to think that my symptoms are hiv related .... he thinks that the pain under my armpit is most probaly from the severe infection that i had weeks ago and that the glands take time to go back to their normal size and said that it is normal...... i also told him that those are the only symptoms that i have... is this a good assesment by this doctor?

thank you

You have a relatively short time to get through until your final test. Of course that time may seem huge to you. It can go far more quickly than you may imagine at this moment if you get serious about staying productively busy instead of fretting and frankly, feeling sorry for yourself.

Stay busy including physically with some exercise (even just walking daily) and you will be amazed at the difference, no kidding.

There is a whole world going on outside of your head, so look around and enjoy it.

Ultimately it's clear we all expect you to come out of this ok.

Cheers,

You know we can't diagnose you over the internet.

I would suggest you go first thing next week and get your conclusive result. It's not going to change from your last test result, but it would seem that it is the only thing that will put your mind to rest.

I'm fully, totally expecting you to collect another negative result.

Kilani,

You've been reading these forums long enough now to know full well that we see people with symptoms all the time who turn out to be conclusively negative.

I've yet to see an insertive partner test positive after a condom break and I doubt you will be the first.

Just go get that test done asap so you can collect your conclusive negative and put this episode behind you.

Kiliani,

You've already been told your test result wasn't going to change. That's even more certain with a 4th generation test.

Go enjoy your holiday. You do not have hiv.

Make sure you take a supply of condoms with you, and make sure you use them correctly so they don't break on you. Refresh your condom knowledge by reading through those links in my signature line.

kiliani,

Read this thread from top to bottom again. None of the things we said will change. Your 10.5 week negative result is not going to change. You do not have hiv.

Forget about hiv and enjoy your holiday. If you have intercourse with anyone, use a condom and you'll be fine. Refresh your knowledge of condom use by reading the links in my signature line.

You are hiv negative.

Kili,

Having your first baby can be an anxious time - that's natural. However, now that you have ruled hiv out of the picture, there's other things you should be worrying about - like what colour to paint the nursery and what you're going to name the little blighter.

I don't expect to see you back here so... good luck with the baby and don't forget, this is supposed to be a happy time in your life, not one overshadowed by worries over something you don't have.

Kili,

People get rashes. People who are hiv negative get rashes. Not every rash or other ailment has anything to do with hiv. In fact, most don't.

Your next step? Go to your doctor and show him your rash. Also ask your doctor for a referal to a counselor so you can get to the bottom of why you equate every little twinge in your body with hiv, when it couldn't possibly be, seeing as how you are conclusively hiv negative.

You also need to stop coming here everytime your body feels, looks or acts funny. Go to your doctor instead. We cannot diagnose you over the internet, as you have been repeatedly told. There's nothing more we can do for you here.

Ann

Hi Ann Andy Rapid rod and everyone'

i took your advice and went to the doctor and showed him the rash .. he said it was probaly the deodrant or something of that sort he said it was nothing to worry about .. however i told him about my constant diziness and imbalance .. he transfered me to an ENT doctor who examined me and informed me that i need surgery to remove tissue that is blocking my my nasal air passage .. he informed me that this passage is blocking the sufficient oxygen from reaching the lungs therefore not enough oxygen reaches the brain which causes diziness and all sorts of problems..my question he booked me for surgery on wednesday and asked me to come on tuesday for a blood test and when i asked what tests the nurse told me for hiv and hepatyits..
1 why does he test me for hiv...
2 i heard on of the nurses say that the rapid test is not reliable and that the only reliable test is antibodies that takes 2days...is this true

Title: Re: very worried
Post by: RapidRod on December 16, 2006, 04:44:11 pm
The rapid test is reliable if taken at the correct time. The nurse was incorrect.
Title: Re: very worried
Post by: Coffeechick88 on December 16, 2006, 05:42:27 pm
1.  he probably did HIV and hepatitis testing because you are having surgery.  Some of the doctors in my area do that.
2.  The rapid test is a valid test.  The nurse was incorrect.  In the event of a positive result on a rapid test, it is still recommended to confirm with standard serology tests, but you take the test in the proper time, it is very reliable.

Kili,

Yes, counseling can work - if you are serious about working on yourself and put the time and effort in. It's also important to find a therapist you feel comfortable with.

And yes, I know plenty of people who have benefitted from counseling/therapy, myself included.

I am glad your thread was merged, and am sorry that I did not notice your extensive psot count before I replied.

After 61 posts on this forum, you should know as well as any of us how HIV is and is not transmitted.

Kil,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep everything in one thread. It doesn't matter how long it has been since you last posted in your thread or if the subject matter is different.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

You've been coming here for well over five years, including back when we had different forum software. Surely that's long enough to have learned that NOTHING you are reporting was a risk for hiv infection.

No, not even the anal rubbing. That activity is commonly called frottage, and frottage is NOT a risk for hiv infection.

No penetration equals no risk. No risk equals no testing necessary.

Why would getting your ass licked be a risk when saliva is NOT infectious? You really, really should know this stuff by now.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST SPECIFICALLY OVER THE INCIDENT WITH A TRANSGENDER PERSON, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Wow.

Think about it.

YOUR blood makes YOU more at risk because SHE licked your anus?

YOUR blood makes you more at risk because SHE pressed her penis against you?

Again, five years. And you still ask that question?

I withdraw from further discussion with you regarding HIV. You know as much about it as I do, as anyone here does, by now.

And I am going to warn you that if you come back here again with more of these fanciful what ifs after all that you have been told here, well it's just ridiculous and you are just at the edge of getting a time out and possibly a permanent one.

You are abusing the service being offered here.

Consider yourself warned.
