Help Wanted: General manager of Stonehenge

I think i'm going to apply for this position.  I'd have to learn up on my Stonhenge history though.  Pays pretty well.

Salary seems low to head a staff of that size, and such a frequented and terribly important site.  Just saying...

The successful applicant will be getting somewhere in the region of £800 (approximate take-home) quid a week more than I do - I don't know what I'd even do with that kind of money coming in. Well, I do, but it would take some getting used to. :o

Besides, it's far higher than the average teacher's salary in the UK. If you ask me, it's messed up when a National Heritage employee gets higher compensation for looking after a relic from the past than someone who is shaping the nation's future.

It's also higher than the average nurse's salary in the UK. Who plays a more vital role in the community - a nurse or a National Heritage manager?

The job advertisement doesn't even list any higher education requirements, unlike the other two fields I mention. ::)

Above I said "National Heritage", but on closer inspection it's actually "English Heritage".

My intent was to compare the salary to two other government-sponsored jobs, one in the education sector (DoE) and one in the health sector (NHS)

English Heritage is the Government's statutory adviser on the historic environment. Officially known as the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England, we are an executive Non-Departmental Public Body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Our principal powers and responsibilities are set out in the National Heritage Act (1983). linky

It was built according to government specifications of the time period.  The workers were told to clear the area for construction. They asked what do we do with the big stones ?  They were told we could care less, you can stand them up for all we care. Project was never completed due to budget problems and so there they stand.
