Official choice of place and time for AMG 2015
« on: January 01, 2015, 03:34:35 am »
We have the top three:

Memphis (9)

Philadelphia (8 )

Nashville (5)

Now, it is time to choose which location and the time of year. Please make your choices known in this thread. Voting will be open until Jan. 20.

Just to get the ball rolling, I will start the discussion.

I think Memphis would be a good choice, in part because I have never been there, and in part because we have never really held AMG in the South (aside from D.C.)

Also I think August would be a good time. My reasons are it seems to be the easiest time for many to attend.

So, whadda ya think?

HUGS,

I'm confused. Did you just close voting on the location from the other thread you began, as I can't tell from your first post in the other thread when voting ended?

Or was the other thread a "discussion" (meaning nominations) and now we're voting on the three winners. Again, this thread is lacking clarity.

edit: never mind -- I see where midway through the other thread you suddenly announced that 31 December was the end. Personally as far as Philadelphia goes, and as I expect that I would serve "tour guide" duties, I would request we consider my fair city for another year as I am not certain if my pain issues will be resolved enough by summer to perform adequately in what is a city one must do a lot of walking in to see effectively.

i read this as being a final vote, of the selections that made the short list from the other threads discussion. and a soft discussion on date

elucidation?

unless it is in PHL, i probably won't be attending this summer, prior engagement up the east coast

some great bar b que in memphis, but for a gathering i think nashville would suit much better... more suited for that sort of thing... just my opinion

I think Memphis has way more to offer visitors than Nashville. It's funky and diverse with tons to do. It's easy to get around and much friendlier and not conservative like Nashville. Ask Jan she loved it when she visited.

   Memphis in August .

The hotel I stayed , at Mud Island was one block from the trolleys  :)
There is a lot to do , Beale Street is right there .
     Elvis is across town .

I'm torn between Nashville and Memphis, so for now I will go with Nashville, but if Memphis gets the vote I will be happy with that also. As Hal said I loved Memphis, Beale street was amazing, and I didn't quite get enough Elvis memorabilia.. ;D

The only month I can attend is August.

Look forward to hearing more about our 2015 AMG.

Memphis. Provided no one wants to willingly go to Branson because they think it would be 'neat'.

If y'all choose Memphis in August make it the week before or after death week for Elvis which I believe is the week before he died on the 16th. You wouldn't be able to find hotel rooms within an eighty mile radius of the city. It's a BIG deal.

No girl don't believe the hype. Downtown Memphis is safer than most big cities. I can point you in the right direction if you're looking for trouble. You'll love it here, it's not one of those wannabe southern cities, it's the real deal.

While I was at my daughters  house these last few weeks . I was watching the Memphis news station and from what they were saying the pyramid will be open sometime in may . from what they showed on the news it looks awesome inside and out!

Yeah I vote Branson too. As does Abso. He's an autograph hound, and loves the chase.
But would like to go to Dollywood too. (is it nearby ? lol)

Our schedules are open, but would prefer to avoid funerals, humidity and Elvis. (he stopped doing autographs).

I will vote for Memphis as well.  Especially since Miss Philly may not be up for walking around Philly this year.  I have been to Nashville and saw many AMG members there back in 2005, but I have not been to Memphis.

Since there is the Elvis ceremony in mid-August, I was thinking it might be prudent to start the trip on Thursday, July 30 or Friday, July 31 through say, Tuesday, August 4. What do you folks think?

Look forward to seeing you good people after a two year hiatus.  Hugs.

Does Memphis offer something more user friendly for Miss P. after the 3hr flight ?

I'm sure if Jody wanted to go to Philly regardless of Miss P and her feet, he would say so. He doesn't need to make excuses.

To answer your question: Does Memphis offer something more user friendly for Miss P. after the 3hr flight the answer would be yes it does, friends who will help him get around instead of him feeling obliged to be our tour guide, it can be more relaxing for him.

I've obviously been to Nashville many times so I'm throwing my vote to Memphis.  Never been there.  We'll be able to drive there which will be nice since I will be nice and rested after Greg does all the driving.  :)

I certainly missed seeing everyone this past year and am looking forward to it.  And since I won't be scouring the late night bar scenes, you all might get to know me a little better.  ;)

Thanks Jan, there can be no better friend than you to have my back :)

Hi Irisheyes, I would love to go to Philadelphia, it has been about 20 years since I got down there and it looks like the city is very nice now.  I hope to get there this Spring as it is only 100 miles or so away for me and if AMG '16 is held there that would be great.  But when David said it would be difficult this year to help folks get around that clinched my Memphis vote.

Hugs to all.

Jody :)

OK, I'm voting for Memphis, but I also vote that we finalise a date soon. I put in a vacation request just today for July 8-17 as we are supposed to go to a friend's wedding in Cali, but I will gladly cut that trip down to a weekend if I need to take additional time off in August. I'll have to tell them tomorrow that I jumped the gun.

I planned to close the vote on Jan. 20th. If that is too late, we can do it sooner.

I think either planning for the very first week of August or the last week of July might be best, to avoid the Elvis frenzy.

I also have started exploring train routes should Memphis be the choice. ;) If so, I will get the chance to travel on a route I have always wanted to take but to date haven't - the Sunset Limited. It is the train made famous in the second of the "Thin Man" movies.

I am all a tingle already.

That will probably be one of my most cherished memories for AMG.  I still remember every detail of Chocolicious and all our treking to scope out the scenes for evenings.  I think you and I have the best gaybardar there is.  :)

On another note, there are many of us within driving distance so perhaps we can plan ride sharing that could include kidnapping Betty and head down yonder.

Hey Gang,

I am going to propose we close the voting for location. I think the choice is pretty clear.

The final vote, if I close today, would be:

Memphis - 16

Philadelphia - 3

Nashville - 0 (Jan changed her vote)

Anyone who objects to closing the vote now should make their concerns known quickly, please.

If not, I propose to close the vote for location today, since I think the tally is pretty much a mandate.

Now, I would also propose we set the dates for early August, specifically, either:

July 30th through Aug. 4

or

Aug. 6 through Aug. 11.

Preferences?

HUGS,

Mark

Opinions and considerations?

I imagine hotels are already booked during the overlap. Elvis week is HUGE. People from all over the world descend on Memphis to worship their God EP. If you're coming you better check room availability soon.

So Dachsund, which specifically is the overlap week...I gather it would be Aug. 6th to 11th when there might not be hotel rooms available.  So should Mark just dump that week and we would go July 30 to Aug.4???

I think it would be prudent to eliminate Aug. 6 to 11 as too close to the Elvis ceremony.

Yep, the 6th-11th would be the overlap. It's just an overlap of a few days but I still think it would make room availability difficult. Plus I'm sure room rates are higher prior to the 16th.

I add my voice to the group suggesting the earlier week.  How about some guidance about where we want to be located.  There are a very small number of choices in immediate walking distance of Beale Street.  The obvious one..the Peabody will almost certainly be too expensive for most of us.  We could also look for a riverfront location but then would need shuttle/taxi to get to Beale Street.  More opportunities for affordable lodging there.  I do believe we want to stay in town versus the outlying suburbs.  Thoughts?  Ideas?  We can begin to ascertain what type of group rate might be available to us.  Knowledge of group size will be essential when we contact hotels.  In years past, the range of 10-15 rooms has been about right.  This may be too small for some hotels' group rates.

Keep the ideas coming!

We stayed in a nice hotel in Memphis, just can't recall the name, I remember in was opposite a Baseball Club, was it the  Memphis Redbirds?, or Cardinals? something like that, I think the park was called the AutoZone Park.  I know it was within walking distance to Beale street because Jeff, Jen and I walked home from there one night, and it didn't' take us long at all.

Jeff can you remember the name of the hotel?

Here's a video that came out in the NY times today on what to do in Memphis. Memphians will all disagree on who has the best BBQ, but that's a discussion for another day. Any downtown hotel will be in walking distance to Beale Street, Civil Rights Museum etc. If you plan excursions out of downtown Uber or Lyft is the way to go. Taxi service is awful.

Yep, thats it . The rates there are 189 a night with no haggling . I need to look again but I think the Marriott is a good choice and close to where we where to be . I also found a better range of prices on Priceline or expedia than the hotel websites . Year before last when Jan, Jen and I stayed at the doubletree I was rather surprised at the lack or bargains in the area near Beale street but I do hope we can find a hotel within walking distance that everybody can live with because it is the best location in my opinion .

I will add the Doubletree to my search.  In that area there is a Holiday Inn as well and a Hampton.  The last time I checked the internet rate at the Hampton was over $200 for that timeframe.  Holiday Inn was around $150.

With a group we may get a good break but we will need a minimum number of rooms to get that rate.  Historically, that information has been hard to come by when we plan AMG without Dennis.  Last year I was so overwhelmed with moving and starting a new job that I just could not devote time to help get a group for San Diego.  I am going to try to be proactive this time.  We must celebrate our 10th anniversary... Rocky in Heaven is insisting!

The Doubletree is an ideal location.  The internet rate is $189.  We can do better with a group rate.  It looks like the minimum for a group is 10 rooms but I will find out during business hours.

The Holiday Inn Select is just a bit further away but walkable.  The internet rate there is $154.  No information about group rate but I will try and find out.

The Hampton is $218.  I am curious how they can have such a high rate for what is basically a Hampton.  It is nearby though and well reviewed.

The key for us is some concept of our group size.  Some will want to share rooms but we are going to need a minimum, I believe, of 10 rooms.  Will try and find out...the sooner we get set up the better.

Weasel,

For AMG, this is quite early!  There is nothing to book yet as we have not even agreed on a date.  We will try to get a group rate with a block of rooms (somewhere between 10-15 rooms) and then give people a chance to reserve.  We will need to choose a hotel from a list (most likely three) and be attentive to any mandatory minimums.  We were not able to organize this last year but I am optimistic we can this year.  In short, too soon to reserve...stay attentive to this forum!

All of the above are fine with me, although the hotels nearer to Beale St would be ideal, but I will wait and see what the others think and I go with them.

Another thing to consider is parking.  The doubletree charges $22/night.  That's not horrible, but if everything else is similar, free parking would be a benefit.  I checked the Doubletree's suites and they're fairly priced.

I would prefer a kitchenette area but couldn't locate a hotel yet that has them.

Residence Inn would have a kitchenette area in all rooms/suites, as they are an "Extended Stay" chain.  They also provide free continental breakfasts (as does the Springhill Suites).

Personally -- I'd prefer anything in the Marriott family, as that is where we usually stay and I have Platinum status, but I'm good with anything listed here.

The Doubletree and Holiday Inn both have bars in them. i checked others but those were the only hotels I could find with a bar in them.

The Holiday Inn also has a restaurant, coffee shop and free parking. It also is a bit cheaper.

I think it is also a bit older than than the Doubletree, for whatever that is worth. We have stayed in a number of older hotels and had wonderful experiences with them.

I would like to narrow the choice of hotels to two or three. That would make it easier.

Also, are we planning on booking ourselves in or are we going to try for a group rate. I don't have much experience with the group rate thing, so advice, assistance, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

Last year the AMG was pretty much cancelled because they needed a credit card to hold Group rooms, and no-one was keen to hand one over,(understandable I guess) at least I think that was the reason, please correct me if I'm wrong.'

If that was the case I would hate  to see that happen again, so maybe we could book our own rooms, unless of course someone is prepared to hand over a credit card.

If we all booked rooms, say ten rooms, could we then ask them for a group rate? Tell them that their competitor has offered us a group rate?

If we all booked rooms, say ten rooms, could we then ask them for a group rate? Tell them that their competitor has offered us a group rate?

Thats a great idea . When we choose a hotel one of us can ask about getting a group rate once we book the rooms … I would be happy to make some calls or you guys can pick someone else … pick a hotel and we can go from there .

I am going to try and negotiate a group rate.  I had pretty much decided to try the Doubletree and the Holiday Inn for sure but would like a third one as well.  It might be possible to get a break on parking at Doubletree if we ask.  Can't hurt.  We have the best chance if we establish a group.  I am guessing there is a hard ten room minimum but I am going to try to find that out also.  I will be willing to guarantee the group on a credit card but there will be a very clear cutoff date for reservations against the block.  In this way, there is no danger of my being charged.

I was too busy at work and moving last year to try and intervene and keep the San Diego AMG alive.  As it turned out, i couldn't have even attended anyway.  I really want this to work so I will step in and see what I can do.  After I get the information, we can discuss it quickly on here and make a decision.

We will definitely get a better rate if we have a group block of rooms.

The Holiday Inn is older and not as nice as the Doubletree but if it's cheaper (free parking) and you're basically just using it for sleeping, it's fine. It's location is ideal. It's right across the street from The Peabody (the south's grand hotel) and walking distance to all the sights downtown. There are cool bars and popular restaurant, steps from the front door.

I'm sure I'd be happy with any of the hotels, but if the Holiday Inn has free parking that will make it a lot easier for those who are driving (I'll be flying).  Since Daschsy says it has a good location with bars and restaurants steps from the door, it sounds like a winner to me.

I have contacted the Holiday Inn and discussed our needs.  I will be getting a formal proposal from them very quickly.  In short, the group minimum is ten rooms.  They have availability for more if we need them.  The group rate will be $149 per night plus tax.  Someone suggested there was free parking.  That information is incorrect.  None of the downtown hotels offer free parking.  Parking is by valet only at the Holiday Inn and the rate is $22 per night (like all of the other hotels) although here there are in and out privileges.  There are other garages nearby but no in and out privileges and higher rates for overnight.

I will also talk to group sales at the Doubletree and the Hampton and we can compare the offers as well.

Any of these hotels are going to require a minimum number of rooms in order to get a group rate.  The group rate will almost always be less than any individual rate we could get for ourselves.  In order to get a group rate, there will have to be a credit card guarantee on the group.  I will be willing to do this but will exercise the no cost cancellation provision if we do not reserve the required minimum rooms.

Hope to have the other hotel information for everyone very soon.

This is progress from last year!  Glad to help.

Just got off the phone with group sales at the Doubletree.  They will offer a minimum of ten rooms at $179 a night plus tax.  They also have valet parking with in and out privileges at $22 a night.  I think we can assume this $22 rate is going to be constant everywhere we check in downtown Memphis.  They also have more than ten rooms at the moment at this rate.

As we compare, price of course is important, but I would also suggest looking at the reviews, looking at amenities and walking distances.  This hotel is somewhat closer to Beale Street and is newer.  We can decide whether it worth $30 a night more than the Holiday Inn.

I will have a formal proposal from them in a day or so.

I am also going to check the with Hampton as it is also closest to Beale Street.

More coming!

I just spoke with the Hampton Inn near Beale Street.  Same ten room minimum.  Additional rooms if we need them.  Their rate is $194 plus tax.  Their parking is self parking (the others are valet) at $17 a day with in and out privileges.  Their garage is attached to the hotel itself.  Unlike the Doubletree or the Holiday Inn, the Hampton offers a free breakfast every day although it ends at 10 am on weekdays and 11 am on weekend.  I will have a formal proposal from them in a day or so.

Are there other hotels anyone wishes me to check?  We have three now.

The Doubletree isn't any closer to Beale than the Holiday Inn. They are on the same street, almost next to each other. The Hampton is basically on Beale Street and I've heard goods things about it.

You should get a quote from the Westin Beale Street

I will give them a call on Wednesday and speak with the group sales manager.  This is the first hotel we have looked at the charges for wi-fi at $12.95 a day.  For me, that is a deal breaker unless the price is below the market.  I can't imagine they would be underneath the $149 for the Holiday Inn which has free wifi even though it is an older property.  Nevertheless, sometimes you can get a good deal when you are putting a group together and I will see what they offer.

thanks for the suggestion!

Well, if you let us spank you an extra time at AMG I think that will be sufficient.  :-)  Really, we are miles ahead of last year.  We will have an additional proposal tomorrow.  We can decide fairly quickly.  Our task is to make sure we book TEN rooms.  Anything else is gravy.  With a concrete proposal, dates, and costs...we can spend the next months trying to get others to come.  It was hard last year because so much seemed unsure.

The best part is that we can begin to plan the actual tenth anniversary of AMG and have an appropriate memorial for Rocky as well as the others.  I am excited!

Once we have dates and location locked, I can get the 2015 Grants Committee in motion.  Will check with former members this week to see if they are still interested and, if not, put out a call for other volunteers.  The sooner we start this, the more donations may come in - thus helping ensure some additional attendees.

Yea Mike!

I thought for sure you would comment on the opportunity to spank Mark...but I guess there will be time for that later!

I am going on a 14 day cruise in the Baltics this June....Rotterdam, Copenhagen, Berlin, Talinn, St. Petersburg, Helskini, Stockholm, Arhaus, and back to Rotterdam.  Very excited to visit some new countries.

And...excited to visit Beale Street and Memphis with AMG.

Once we have dates and location locked, I can get the 2015 Grants Committee in motion.  Will check with former members this week to see if they are still interested and, if not, put out a call for other volunteers.  The sooner we start this, the more donations may come in - thus helping ensure some additional attendees.

Mike

To wit:

I propose we officially name Memphis as the location and the dates from July 30 through Aug. 4.

Anyone with any other ideas speak now or pack for a Southern adventure.

Still needing comments, discussion and recommendation on the three hotels.  Also each of them will require a minimum of ten booked and occupied rooms in order to secure the group rate and group booking privileges.  The sooner we solidify the block, the easier it will be to promote the event to others.  Of course, we need to wait to sign the agreement and establish the group before anyone makes reservations.

Price wise these two are the best offer:

Springhill Suites By Marriott Memphis Downtown
85 West Court Avenue Memphis, TN, 38103 United States, 866-573-4235 at  $154 per night.

Sheraton Memphis Downtown Hotel
250 N Main St Memphis, TN, 38103 United States, 866-925-867 at $155 per night.

The first option is closer to Beale Street.

Unless these two are falling down they would be my choice, it doesn't matter to me if they don't have a bar or restaurant, there are enough of those outside the hotels.

As for parking I really don't know much about that, but as always I will go with the majority vote.

Please help Gary out with choices and lets get this going...so start posting guys.  ;)

I am fine with Springhill Suites By Marriott Memphis Downtown or any other place that is chosen for that matter . I am pretty easy to please so I am going to leave it to Gary or whoever is doing the hotel planning … use your discretion and I will be happy with the choice . I am looking forward to seeing everyone and will be happy no matter where we stay .

You do not want to stay at the Sheraton. It's on the opposite end of downtown from Beale Street and not in a tourist friendly area of town, especially at night.

Springhill Suites Marriott.  July 30-August 4...But if Gary thinks he can get  a better deal at Doubletree or Holiday Inn I say go for it....It  seems like we will easily have 10 rooms...See y'all in Memphis in late July.

Hopefully I will be joining you all.  I will be getting a free bed with one of the men (that's right), and will so love to see all these people face to face.  I just hope my roommate doesn't mind my beauty routine.  Hell, he may have one himself.

I will try and get a group rate offer at the Spring Hill on Monday.  The Holiday Inn offer is still the lowest at the moment ($149) and it is literally adjacent to the Beale Street area.  I will post the offer when I get it.

I would say Dachsunds recommendation of the Holiday Inn is of utmost value.  The location near Beale St. is I believe more important than saving a few bucks so I say if Gary finds all things relatively equal to go with that.

The main difference is price.  Roughly the same parking fee (other than Hampton which is $10 a day cheaper.)  Hampton is the only free breakfast but is the most expensive room.  All the ones I have quoted are "close" to Beale Street.  Other than the Westin (and their internet rate is higher than everyone else's) we have the information.  Price is not the only consideration I know, but it is important to many people.

I hope to hear the preferences of more people before I sign a contract with one particular place.  Sooner rather than later is highly encouraged.

Thanks to those who have already weighed in....after this, we can actually talk about planning the event itself...much more fun! and our Grants group can begin their good work too.

My choice is wherever y'all will be.  That's better than any amenities any place could offer.  :)

I also didn't realize it's over 1200 miles roundtrip.  It's pert near Arkansas for god's sake.   Greg said that's not too far to drive so at least I'll be well rested and ready to go once we get there.   ;D

lol it isn't a bad trip really I go from here to Ohio once a year. worst part of that drive will be the western ky parkway if you go that way. long boring ride. which Is why I don't go that way I go down through Lexington on 68 two lane highway but goes by all the horse farms!

I don't know how long it takes to drive through Arkansas,  from west to east, but some years ago, I drove from Memphis to Jericho ARKANSAS and it was a nice drive.  No big deal.   I am sorry.

One question, do they have JACK DANIEL'S chicken barbecue in Tennessee?  It is a very popular menu at TGIF restaurants here in JAPAN.

Memphis borders Arkansas, just a quick swim across the Mississippi. There's a Friday's across the street from the hotel. I think anyone buying bbq there would be arrested or at least publicly humiliated. To Memphians, if it ain't Memphis style, it ain't BBQ.

Zach,
Goodness.  I sometimes have a chance to eat at an officers' club at the US Navy base here in TOKYO, actually Yokosuka, and I  thought theirs was the best BBQ.  I must definitely go to MEMPHIS  this time.

I decided to check the cost of airfare instead of allowing Greg drive so many hours while I sleep.  :)  $900.00 for 2 round trip tickets....wow!  Still doesn't make sense that my cheapest airfare so far has been the furthest flight I've taken.  Seattle was just a little over $200 IIRC.

This has become less and less true, in my experience, since the airlines have consolidated so much.  It can sometimes be even more expensive a month out if it's a popular route.  The airlines have all cut supply, so as a flight fills, they do not need to cut the price down.  I start looking at prices as soon as I have decided that I need to fly somewhere -- often 10 months out.  I try to gauge about what I want to pay and see how close I can get over time and then I usually book 1-2 months out, if I haven't seen the price I want.  Also -- it can sometimes be substantially cheaper to book one-way flights (even on different airlines) than roundtrip.  this used to never be true, but I see it more and more now.

When I checked the Richmond to Memphis flights last week, I was seeing ~$365 RT each, with not much difference on one-ways.  I'm watching for under $300 RT.

Works the other way for me, the earlier I can book a flight the better the fare. We have to get in real early, that's why I need to know how things are going, but it is what it is, I know we can't rush these gatherings.

If it's later then I have to pay more to come and see your smiling faces, so y'all better may it worth while.. :D

I can see we're all excited again about AMG.  For some reason, it appears many of us simply had an awful period during the planning and follow through with last year's event.  I won't mention all that was happening during that period again.

I can't wait for y'all to meet the other Greg but I need  all to promise me that even though you'll like him better, don't let it be obvious.  :)

I don't remember the drinkies I bought Jan but I totally remember the god awful restaurant that I begged someone to go to for days.  She agreed and basically ended up with 2 entrees.  I still can't believe a vegetarian restaurant of any culture serves meat.

I enjoyed our meal date, I say date because we were the only two left at the hotel because of our hangovers, everyone else had gone their merry ways, although Rocky (bless his heart)  did try and get me out of bed.  :D

Not sure what I ate but it sobered me up, so for that I thank you, BTW it was my very first vegetarian restaurant.

Can wait to see you again and meet Greg.

OH, I remember.  An authentic Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant.  I saw the bright sign from my room for days.  It wasn't meant for tourists as nobody spoke English and we had to simply point at our selections.  They didn't serve any beverages that I even recognized.

I was delivered some sort of wrap that was disgusting.  It tasted like slime so I opened it up and we witnessed raw shrimp that could probably have been brought back to life.  Obviously, I did not need to eat anything else that day.

OOOPS, we're getting so off track.   OH well, time to get excited.

I missed the infamous "lemon drop" night in Seattle because I was already sufficiently schnockered in the hotel bar and went straight to bed!  I marveled at how everyone else hauled themselves up Capitol Hill and back down.  The stories the next day were priceless!

I was mostly innocent the night of the lemon drop.

Really, I remember getting back to the hotel and everything.

I may have had a tipple or two, and did grab someone's backside in the leather bar, but, really, I was totally innocent.

Now, the day of the lavender martinis, that is another story.

Or, were they the same day?  :o

Yes they were the same day, you and I were in charge of scouting all the awesome places.  I think we started our trek around lunch time.  I'm just grateful I made it back to the hotel by breakfast.  :)  And I won't mention whom I witnessed arriving shortly after I did.  :)

Oh yes, that was a grand day! Eternal blessings on our Henry and his supply of Dewar's.

Then there was the place across the street where the bartender nearly caught the place on fire during a demonstration.

And the visit to Boys Town.

Oh, Memphis, here we come!

I would like to finalize the hotel arrangements.  Are we safe with establishing a room block of 10 rooms for Thursday through Tuesday at the Holiday Inn?  At the moment, they have additional rooms (and hopefully we will need them) but it would be best to go with the minimum for the purpose of getting a contract.  Keep in mind, we will have to guarantee the ten rooms or cancel the entire block.  If we had to cancel the block, I am fairly certain we could make those individual reservations most likely at the same rate but that is not guaranteed at this moment.  I just want to be sure we are comfortable with a ten room guarantee.  We will have a cutoff time for reservations once we get this set up.  I am sure we will be able to add people afterwards as long as they have rooms.  I just want to be sure that our consensus is with the offer from the Holiday Inn.

Count me in for Memphis.  I'm ready to make a reservation at the Holiday Inn as soon as the block of rooms is established.

I tried re-reading this long thread. Can someone tell me what dates were eventually decide on for this year's AMG and perhaps it would be nice to have a "sticky" thread that has the exact details as they accrue so one doesn't have to wade through all of the conversation. It's daunting for someone new popping in.

How much is a flight to the states?  And, how are those seats?  I would love to visit Australia and New Zealand, but I have this picture of just a little more leg room, than we get on regional flights here.  Well, unless you're in first class and get one of those pods, that allow you to recline fully.  I would need that.  Can I get that for $500 ..lol?

I think we will have a "sticky" thread when the contract is confirmed.  I signed and faxed it on Friday.  We will post hotel information, contact information, etc.  The dates are July 29- August 4.  The hotel is the Holiday Inn Downtown Memphis.
