Open Your Heart - Madonna Video  - 1986!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7JMXYoTj8I

Kind of strange video. Also, an early glimpse of her best, hard, glamorous look.  She lip synchs badly, and dances completely like herself.  She has slimmed down but its years away from the muscles.

Matty meets Fred

That was great.

I hit that link for the Madonna video, thinking I'd watch for a few seconds and I ended up seeing the whole thing. Brought me back.

They are indeed still intact and functional.  Kitty wants to rearrange the dog's face.  My hunch is that they 'play' like this a lot and its a love / hate relationship.

Every spring this would come on and Miss Gulch on that bike would remind me of a neighbor we had that looked a lot like her.  The only diff was that she drove a big black Cadillac.

Straight America is more or less unaware of the existence of Mommie Dearest, dear!

Growing up in the 60's the Wicked Witch of the West was at least a bad-ass female role model. Though it doesn't end well for her, does it...

We didnt even get Jan Brady until 1969.

Remember the old afternoon soap, Dark Shadows?  The following clip is of Carey Mansion (Newport RI), aka Collinwood.  This show was a must watch for most school kids during the late 60s at 3:30PM every weekday.

SiFi played the entire series several years back and I watched as much of it that I could.  LOVED that series and to this day remember some of the wild things they got into.  I Ching, time travel, just the subject matter in general was wild.

The special effects are dated but they did manage to do quite a bit with the budget they had.  When I was a kid, I wanted to be a vampire!  LOL

I think it's so cool that Dark Shadows was a LIVE broadcast each day. That took a lot of work just to get it on the air.

Mikie, remember when they went WAY into the future to the year 1995 and Collinwood was in ruins due to a fire?

Drew, good news that we will get an updated version next year.  That will be something I will certainly watch for.  The storyline allows for so much and I know the special effects will be better than ever.

Since the cameramen were able to travel in these neighborhoods, you would think the government could hire some marksmen to put these animals down humanely.

Holy shit, Bucko!

Hey Bucko, both of those are great old school dance songs, I remember them WELL, thanks for the memories buddy, I was the ripe ole age of 23 or 24, good times  :D

That Rick James video is currently on rotation at a gayghetto bar/burger dive around the corner from where I live called Rosie's, where one goes "To See & Be Seen", according to the sign out front. I was simultaneously entranced and appalled by the obvious, drug-induced squalor of it all, and have since played it on YouTube more or less every day since.

Though all the "dancers" are possessed of their own unique charm, I felt a special pull toward that Asian chick who, at least based on appearance, is the freakiest of all the superfreaks featured (excluding Mr James, natch).

I was hunting out a decent (and not too lengthy clip) of After Dark to post on a different message board I frequent, and that's when I found the second clip. Needless to say, I was floored! She must have been something of a supergroupie/hanger on at the LA dance scene at the time.

Dennis: when I posted regularly here, I was sort of infamous for my music links and threads; this is a pretty good example, though I doubt that many of the links are still current  ::)

ick. first off, Judas has two syllables not three. I'm finding that very annoying

and then what's the deal with all the religious symbolism? the creation stuff in the Born this way vid, not to mention the "H I M" reference, now this. While I don't care if people are religious in their personal life, I had to put up with too much religion with my Baptist upbringing, Baptist high school, and Baptist college to care to hear anything religious in my pop music.

hopefully, these first two tracks will just be the ones I skip over.  ;)

She's always given off a phony vibe, but less than the quirky.  If this new CD ups the phoniness too high I'm off her I'm afraid. Was. not. impressed. with the Grammy performance and Born this Way.  This artist needs to be a little less exhaustively produced. I get the talent and all. But someone should cut her budget.

Lykke li is just as weird and her music and videos don't give me headaches.

Under those flimsy rules you'd also require me to be an Elton John fan... thanks, but no. I refuse to compromise my haughty aesthetic standards to service some rainbow flag waving sad excuse for a Music Maker.

You've admitted to boycotting her music without having listened to it.  I mean it's taste it's subjective and you probably know what you like and what you don't, but I love her.  I kind of want to have her babies.  Elton John's music I similarly like although I wouldn't have his babies.

I have to thank gymrat for that Ruth Brown video
The other day the boys in class were talking about "bitch" hip hop singers.
So I printed out the lyrics to the Ruth Brown and we watched it.
A lot of the world doesn't know about the history of black music, and some younger people don't know that such a things as innuendo or double entendre can be very sexy and interesting.
