Title: When Out Of The Den There Arose Such A Clatter
Post by: thunter34 on December 24, 2007, 03:43:34 pm
Ladies & Gentleman, we have it:  the first salvo has been fired.

We're scarcely halfway through Christmas Eve, and already there has been a skirmish around the family hearth...something to do with Dad "piddling with the DVD player all day" and none of us properly performing the simultaneous functions of providing Mom with the assistance she needs while also staying well out of her way while she cooks.  It seems I also do not know how to run a vacuum adequately & the whole house is still a mess and most likely won't be in presentable shape in time for Christmas & we probably should have just skipped the whole thing altogether in the first place.

Or something to that effect.

We've each retreated to our separate corners at the moment, but the prospect of a silent night is tenuous at best - as it always is.  Ah, the holidays...there's something downright heart warming in the icy comments and cold stares.

LOL, Timtation and a very Merry Christmas to you!  Goodness, things get stressful at the holidays, don't they?  I just put my very first ham in the oven.  The prep time for a ham ROCKS compared to that of a Thanksgiving turkey!

BTW, I vacuumed today, so if you need any pointers, just ask!   ;D

YPT,

I know all too well the situation you have described here.  I go to my bedroom and shut the door when it all gets a little too much to handle.

Merry Christmas!!!!!

Love,

Dan

My father got yelled out once or twice today.  I no longer am yelled at because many years ago I made it quite clear that if I was to expect stress at Christmas I'd just not visit at all, and after I gave that speech to my mother she never went there much again.

Don't feel bad, Thunter Bunny. There is bound to be some drama with my dysfunctional family tomorrow. I have already made escape plans should something happen. If something does happen, I'll be sure to blog about it.

Oh dear, Tim-Tim.  I hope things get better for you.  Tomorrow at my sister's my whole family that lives in this area will be getting together and it will be the first time we've all been together in like five years.  So there will probably be sparks.  And I'm not going to be the go-between if something does happen.  Anyway, Merry Christmas to you, my friend.  I hope you have a good tomorrow
Kisses :-*

LOL.  Well, it seems things have settled a bit for now.  This sort of thing usually happens about this time when the stress of preparations reaches a boiling point.  Dear Mum is master class at turning out the charm once the big day actually commences, though.  We'll see how it goes.

Meantime, I'd like to wish you all a Maury Christmas.

Thunter, I felt your pain yesterday but I will not be feeling it today since I just medicated myelf and am about to slide into a hot bath.  By the time I get back to my family later this morning, I will be in a GREAT mood.  I can handle their issues all day long! maybe even remediate one or two!

Round 2:

I wasn't present for this one, but heard the rumblings of it...something to do with a blanket that Dad "still  hasn't taken to the basement where it belongs".  I did catch the last little bit where Dad was stretching his arms toward heaven and moaning, "Merry Christmas!  Merry Christmas!  Guess we just can't keep old Satan out, can we?  Merry Christmas..."

(If you knew my father, you would appreciate exactly how hilarious the above scene really and truly was.)

The latest bulletin is that Christmas may be cancelled (or at least postponed) due to a muddy driveway.  The sisters and their clans aren't due to arrive til about 4 or so, but Mom has murmured that she may call them and arrange for them to come up tomorrow since it's raining and Dad has never gotten around to paving the driveway and the thought of having them drive up a muddy driveway to get here is all just...well, it isn't sitting well with Mother.

I commented that I thought it strange that Baby Jesus could be born in a barn, but that some muddy tires might impede our celebration thereof.

That didn't sit too well, either.

Of course, it's highly unlikely that Christmas will indeed be called due to rain.  It's more about reminding Dad that his  name is still mud for not getting the driveway paved in a timely fashion.

Ho, ho, ho...noz.

Tim, it sounds like something that wouldn't happened in my family years ago.  I can appreciate how utterly rib-splitting that must've been!

Hon, it was a stitch!  That's why I'm online right now....I couldn't help but start laughing and I was getting the Stink Eye, so I came in here to hide out where it's safe.  Thank Baby Jesus for teh intanets.

Well Tim.............................................  Merry Christmas
Thank the Baby Jesus for small blessings:
Its raining....isnt that a good thing? Since you have been in a drought since summer?
That you have a computer.
That you have a MOM and DAD even if they kind of get crazy. (Its the stress of the holiday plans.)
I'm sure you will look back at this in years to come and laugh and think of it as fond memories.

PS.
Next year ask Santa for some gravel for the driveway.

Tim, when it starts to get tough sing "Silent Night" and don't stop singing. Better yet sing the song, "Who Put The Dick on The Snowman."  That will shut up everyone.  ;D

well, this isn't even close to the worst holiday skirmishes we've seen.  my personal best came on thanksgiving a few years back.  i let it fly with Mom - right in front of the in-laws!  i ended up storming out from a stunned and silent crowd.  you could have heard a pin drop.

it was beautiful.   ;D

Thanks, Bear!  That was cute!

As expected, the rest of the family made it...and we've found peace on earth, goodwill toward men.

All is calm, all is bright.

Happy Holidays, ya'll.

Timmy,

I'm busting a gut from your situation.  Have been there, done that and wished I had the t-shirt.

Seriously my friend, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year with big hugs.

Ric

P.S.  We can't say Ho Ho Ho up here anymore.  It appears that it is offensive.  We have switched to Ha Ha Ha.  Seems as though Ho refers to someone's sister's nightime occupation.  Now don't that beat all?  Imagine a children's choir singing, "Up on the rooftop reighdeer's paws. . . HA HA HA who wouldn't go. . .?

Tim,
I'm glad you got through it.  Ours was pretty good, 'cept for a little incident at D's mom's house (she still hasn't quite accepted that he married me instead of some 'nice girl').  What's going to make this holiday lots of fun is that we're going camping Friday for New Years!  That'll be a blast, as always.  And Ric, there will be a lot of Ho, ho, ho's even after Christmas at the campground.

D & D,
Camping? You mean at the 'special' campgrounds? Hope you don't freeze your nice tushes! Yikes, it's cold out there.
