So I guess it's only a matter of time for my stellar Tmobile service to go down the crapper.

Ma-Bell will only have one viable competitor.  You may have read the article in Information Week also:

1) FCC has to approve it, they may not

2) This merger would, most likely, eliminate the #3 carrier by Verizon trying to merge with it -- resulting then in only two major carriers in a country of ~250 cell phone subscribers

3) scenario in #2 would cause everyone's prices to go up, lack of competition; FCC surely realizes this

Jim Cramer of CNBC is not too optimistic about this deal going down either.  A 'duopoly in cell phone land' is the phrase going around.  The SEC and the DOJ have to approve this too.

Count hubby and I as two who have had two generations of iPhones with AT&T who don't say they suck.  The guy sitting in the office across from me does too (as does his wife); neither think they suck.  I've had the same service since '96, though it was BellSouth, 360, Cingular, and now AT&T.  I think it depends on the location as to whether the service (not to be confused with customer service) is good or not.  As for customer service, I haven't used it since I got my first iPhone back in 2008.

I agree that if this acquisition is allow to happen it will be bad for consumers. I like Spint because they are the only major carrier I know of that offers unlimited data for a reasonable price. AT&T is notorious for dirty tricks like with the iPad 3G. AT&T said they were offering unlimited data but didn't disclose they were throttling the data stream to the iPad to the point that YouTube was practically unwatchable. Yes, unlimited data one... kilobyte... at... a... time.

Right. But it's actually a blessing, as I don't have to endure looking at naked pictures of you.

When i think about these huge conglomerates these days I always think about Alec Baldwin's character on 30 Rock. He's always making hilarious and scary conspiracy statements about how GE owns everything you never would have thought of.
I think GE built most of the stuff in those nuclear plants in Japan, for example.
Rachel Maddow spoke the other day about how GE and a bunch of other huge companies paid NO taxes.
There was a documentary on Swiss TV about aspartame and how the only reason its been foisted on the world is Donald Rumsfeld.

True, did they also mention that the chemical it is made of is poisonous?  I guess many things are in large enough doses but this stuff is really bad for you.
