Going to the Sleep health Center
« on: February 19, 2007, 02:14:13 am »
Well my ex said that i would stop breathing while sleeping, then wake up. Much to my surprise. So it's off to the sleep Center. If anyone has any tips or knowledge to share, i would greatly appreciate it.
Maybe this is part of the reason I am so damned tired during the day. thanks so much. have a great week everyone!

It sounds like they would need to test you for sleep apnea.

Here's a link about it: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/Diseases/SleepApnea/SleepApnea_WhatIs.html

Hey Jeff,

I actually had a septoplasty last October to correct a deviated septum that was causing lot of issues such as reoccuring sinus infections, snoring etc.   I've heard that can cause sleep apnea.

Best wishes!

Hey Jeff,

Sounds like sleep apnea to me too. I have been told I also have this, but, of course, since I'm asleep, I can't verify it.

Let me know how it comes out. I will send positive energy and a wish for pleasant dreams your way.

HUGS,

Good luck Jeff,

It will be tons of fun sleeping with all those electrodes, etc. attached to you!  I'm a person that sleeps on her stomach, so I was not that comfortable sleeping on my back with all those wires attached.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea.  I got a CPAP machine and started losing weight.  The CPAP machine is very attractive (NOT).   ::)  Its kind of like wearing a darth vader mask to bed, but it does the trick.  At the end of 2004 I had a UPPP done as well as a tonselectomy and that seemed to alleviate the problem for me.

Good luck Jeff.
Someone I know had problems falling asleep alot and he went in to the sleep center. Very shortly after he fell asleep they woke him up and sent him home. He had sleep apnea, and he used the machine thing until his surgery could be scheduled. I suppose he had the same things done that TSW did, and I think it cleared up the problems.

Hey Jeff,

Yes it did.  I was never tested for sleep apnea, but I'm sure I had it.   I can breath a lot better and haven't had any issue like sinus infection since.

It's not that bad.   I was a whiny baby for a couple days so I think it was worse for every else who knows me ; )

You'll be fine.

I get too many sinus infections, and I've been told I snore (???) ;). I'm sure my septum is deviated because I can't breathe through one nostril on it's own.  Maybe I should consider it.

Well, I haven't heard any complaint of snoring anymore.  They did a catscan of my head and I had stuff on one side and couldn't breath through one nostril properly.  I definitely had a deviated septum.   This was the septoplasty.

Now, I had that actual sinus surgery 10 years ago which must have been something like the equivalent of an abortion with a hanger.  That hurt and took forever for the bruising to go away.   Although, I had a little extra work done that time so made recovery time longer.

But the septoplasty only swelling while the tubes were in and I had no bruising.   It was almost completely healed within a week.

Hey Jeff, I went for a sleep study a couple years ago.  What a laugh, got to the hospital, bed down in this tiny cubicle with a glass door and a million wires attached, yeah, like I'm going to sleep!

Came back diagnosed with fairly severe sleep apnea.  The ENT wanted to undeviate(?) my septum, reduce my turbinates  then remove my uvula an tonsils  :o.  The internal doc said the surgery is only 50% effective, and recommended a CPAP machine.  So I got that, tried it for a couple weeks and hated it so into the closet it went.  Lately however I'm so tired (maybe its apnea, maybe its the HIV) so I'm trying the CPAP again but I hate it.  It always comes loose and starts blowing cold air on my face which wakes me up.

I seriously hated my CPAP machine too.  I sleep on my stomach and that danged thing is NOT conducive to that.  BUT, it did work and I did get some much needed rest, when I could keep the danged thing on...  The (now ex) said it helped him sleep because I didn't stop breathing at night when i used it.  However, it was not the sexiest equipment a girl could wear to bed... :-\  Once I had the tonsillectomy and the UPPP, where they cut out the uvula(that little dangly thing)  and the extra tissue at the top of your mouth, I could sleep without the danged thing.  Of course I also kicked the ex out and that helped alot with my sleeping too  ;D  Now the ENT said that it could turn out that I might need to go back to the CPAP, but so far things have been fine.

How did your study go?

Jeffery,

Thinking of you and hoping that you find peaceful sleep from this.  I totally understand, and like the others here, I too am in the same boat.  Haven't done anything yet to fix it, but I think soon I will have to.

Well i had my sleep study thingy. They hooked me up to about fifty wires LoL. I felt like Frankenstein! After he hooked everything up, he said "Now try to sleep on your back" Which, of course, I NEVER DO cause I start to stop breathing in that position!

I fall out, and 20 minutes later I see this male nurse hovering over me.
"You have a problem" and begins to cover my mouth/nose with Gawd knows what. I fall back asleep, and awoke every hour or so. It was so weird, I felt like I was giving head to an....I don't know...Exhaust pipe from a Mac Truck? I would choke every hour and awake to this weird flow of wind going right up the nose.

The weirest night ever. I just kept wondering: Did the cams above head capture MY MORNING WOOD? LoL...I hope so. I'm sure that made the nurses day!

The results will arrive soon, I'll keep you all informed. Thank you all for the insightful comments, very helpful as usual.

Hello Jeffery,

You will have to keep us updated on those results. I am not one for sleeping on my back either. I would be wound up in wires, if nobody was watching.
