The undetectable club scene
« on: July 22, 2007, 11:59:56 pm »
I got this email back from this openly HIV+ person:

"I'm not really into having sex with HIV positive dudes that are not undetectable or at least under 10000 VL".

So that's a new one for me, actually it's not, it's the second time I was told I was not undetectable so I was "dangerous".. I haven't seen posts about this before. Not only we're discriminated for our status but now we have to have a certain "standard" that is under 10000 VL ????????????

So I can't have sex unless i'm undetectable ???

Here we go again: Guys are relying on "scout's honor" as if tricks can't tell outright lies about not having a high VL or whatever  ::)

And what about a high VL makes them so apprehensive? They already have HIV

Maybe they should be more afraid of dudes saying anything they want, e.g., telling lies, just to get laid

I've never heard about this til now and I'm curious about what these guys are thinking and where they're getting their information

My viral load is 46,000.  So there's no hope.

Just because he's HIV+, doesn't mean he's not an ass.

I was wondering if he would say the same thing to your face, the internet dating scene can bring out the worst of people.

I think it's a new movement within serosorting to prevent superinfection. Not sure on what scientific evidence this number is based upon, whether it's arbitrary or not, but even I heard of this trend before, and I'm in Europe.

I've heard that one in the past as well.

Just goes to prove that having HIV doesn't mean a damn thing when it comes to ignorance about the virus.

The caste system among HIVers, poarticularly Gay  men, has been around as long as viral load testing;  amd it only grew stronger with the advent of HAART to produce results below the limits of detection.  It's about as idiotic as neg-UB2 barebacking.  It damages the psyche of men with detectable virus, and it does nothing in the long run from a public health perspective.

What an asshole!

Give me a break! >:(

Like I'm suppose to believe someone knows their viral load on any given day. This is just one more feeble excuse for people to not use a condom. "Oh, it's okay, he said he was negative." "Oh, it's okay, he said he's undetectable."

and the check is in the mail and I promise not to cum in your mouth.

Grow up.

I have a question, have I not read or heard somewhere that having a lower viral load makes it more difficult to infect someone?  I ask not as a justification for serosorting or barebacking or any other foolish reason, but strictly for personal knowledge and clarification?

I can see the logic.  A lower viral load....less risk of superinfection.  But it seems to have a lot of holes in it (the person lying, remembering their viral load incorrectly, the viral load has changed significantly since they were last tested, etc...).

But it does seem like a way of transferring responsibility (and blame should something go wrong) to the other person.  I get superinfected.  You told me your viral load was 9,000 but in reality it was probably a lot higher.  Therefore, you are responsible for my superinfection.

Cliff, that's the logic that I think is behind it and could even go so far as to someone who is neg not worrying about becoming infected when having unprotected sex with a poz person.

The fact of the matter is positive is positive.  Trying to think of reasons to justify barebacking is rather foolish.  If one wants to bareback then do it and stop trying to find reasons to give when he/she turns up positive.

Coming from someone who accepts the risks,

Thanks to meds, I am undetectable!!

Thanks to meds, my legs are veiny, and I can rub my crix belly and pat my buffalo hump at the same time!

What a catch!

(It was much easier getting laid with the viral load.)

well said! so i guess "VL0UB2" would be an offshoot of "NegUB2" ... how about "NimrodUB2"?  :D

Crazy! Never heard that before.  I was Diagnosed July2003 and by Sept. 2003 I had an undetectable (<50)VL.  Up until today's date it is still undetectable.  but I still consider that if I am not carefull there is a chance..........
