Title: 3 indeterminate Wb...please help..terrified
Post by: wdslrr91 on September 30, 2012, 02:53:27 pm
Hey everyone,
Im asking this bc im terrfied and everyday is horrible

Any way heres what happened...

July 2010 could have had exposure...i was receptive anal partner with ejaculation
2 weeks later i got sick, went to doctor and found out i had mono and gohonrrea

August 2010(4 weeks) got tested...dr. called and test came back indeterminate, was told to come back in oct

Oct. 2010(9weeks)....retested....test came back indeterminate again...told to come back in dec

Dec 2010(14-15weeks)...retested for the third time, test came back indeterminate...BUT doc told me pcr test was run and that it came back positive

Now I have 3 questions

1) what is the possibilty that i didnt seroconvert by october 2010, or by dec 2010

2) If the WB never showed up positive by December 2010, should i be safe to say that the PCR was a false positive?

3) Would a reactive oraquick fingerspeck test done on Sept 2012 be and indication that i am indeed truly positive, or that the WB test will come back indeterminate/negative if no risks since 2010

wd,

You've been sitting on this for nearly two years without getting further confirmation of your hiv status? It's impossible to know what's going on from the scant information you've given us, but I will say that a persistent indeterminate WB result is NOT a positive result.

As for the PCR testing, some if prone to false positives but you do not give us enough info to even guess at what your result means.

Why don't you just go get tested again? If you really are poz, you need to know and if you're not, not only do you need to put this behind you, but you also need to continue protecting yourself against hiv.

i assumed i was fine and negative like you said because of my WBs never showing up positive...i do not know the vira load or what bands were present on the WB..

I went to get a test done on sept 27 it was an oraquick fingerprick test...it came back reactive so they took blood and are running a WB which i get on oct 4...im terrified bc of that but from everything i have read i should be fine due to the fact that the WB didnt come up positive by october or december of 2010...

my only other question is if the oraquick test was reactive...does that mean i am truly indeed positive or that i can receive another indeterminate on the WB

wd,

It could be that you have an undiagnosed, underlying autoimmune problem/disease. In some people, they can sometimes cause false positive hiv test results and an autoimmune problem is what I'd suspect if you have another indeterminate WB result.

If you do get another indeterminate WB and they run another PCR test (aka viral load, or VL), make sure they are running an RNA test, not a DNA test. The DNA tests are prone to false positive results. If you are actually hiv positive, the results of a VL test should be anywhere from the low 1,000s to the high 10,000s.

You are doing the right thing in investigating this further. If you are poz, don't despair. Today's treatments are very good and people diagnosed in the 2010s can live a full, healthy life - if diagnosed.

Today, it's mainly undiagnosed, untreated hiv positive people who run into big health trouble - or people in resource poor countries who don't have any access to hiv meds. You're in the US so you will be ok. Really.

And if you're confirmed to be hiv negative, then you will know that you need to protect your status going forward. Either way, it's a win-win situation, believe it (now) or not.

Good luck, let us know what happens.

Title: WB indeterminate 13weeks and 21 weeks....helpp
Post by: wdslrr91 on October 03, 2012, 08:07:17 pm
hey guys i have a question for anyone

I had a risk when i had unprotected anal sex on july 16 2010

i got tested for hiv around august 25...6 weeks after risk and test came indeterminate

october 2010...at 13 weeks test came back indeterminate

Decemeber 2010...21 weeks...indeterminate

Now my question is if I was exposed to HIV would it have showed up by 13 weeks or 21 weeks?
or could it be late seroconversion?

wd,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep everything in one thread. It doesn't matter how long it has been since you last posted in your thread or if the subject matter is different.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

Please re-read your entire thread. I'm sorry, but I don't have anything new to add - other than yes, if you are actually hiv positive, the WB test should have been a firm positive by the time you last tested.

You should be getting your WB results today - good luck.

In response to your PM to me, Ann has thoroughly covered the situation. Your concern is understandable, but there is nothing more to add. If you get another indeterminate response then you need to look into the issue of whether you have an autoimmune problem.

There's nothing more we can add at this moment. Good luck with getting it clarified and hopefully a negative result for HIV.

wd,

I have removed your PM privilege. We do not permit people to use PMs as a means of getting around paying a subscription for participation in the Am I Infected forum.

You are not permitted to use PMs to ask questions dealing with hiv transmission and/or testing anyway.

If you read the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:
