I'm ruined my life!
« on: June 27, 2011, 09:57:02 pm »
11 weeks ago I made the biggest mistake in my whole life - IV injection.
New syringe. But who and how cook that shit I have no idea.
Below what was with me after 9 days post inj:

-subfebrile fever
-rubella like rash
-lymphadenopathy
-pharyngitis
-dry cough
-stomatitis (for now)
-night sweats
-headache
-muscle pain
-eyes pain
-liver pain (for now)
-arthralgia
-diarrhea (for now)
-nausea (for now)
-anal herpes
-white tongue
-hair loss (for now)

Looks like I copy this from anywhere? Yes, from my diary.
On week 10 I have been tested NEGATIVE!
Now I experience fever and maculopapular rash. Can it be true seroconversion now?

edit:
Ah, sorry about bad English, can't concentrate...

Antigen,

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week (or more) negative is highly unlikely to change but must be confirmed at the three month point.

Your ten week negative is not going to change.

You're worrying needlessly anyway. You used a new needle. It doesn't matter "who and how cook that shit". You're not going to get hiv from any drugs because it does not remain able to infect outside the human body.

The only time you need to worry about hiv when injecting drugs is if you use the same needle a positive person has used only a minute or two before you.

Whatever is going on with you has nothing to do with hiv as you did not have a risk. If you feel unwell, see a doctor. We can't help you here.

Thank you Ann for so quick answer!
Forgot to wrote  that I have HCV in latent stage. According to the wiki ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV_test#Window_period ) it can cause late seroconvertion.

Antigen,

Did you not read my whole post? You did NOT have a risk for hiv infection. You do not need to worry about late seroconversion.

The only cases I've heard of where hep C caused a late seroconversion was in people who became infected with hiv and hep C at the same time and who also had been injecting street drugs, every day, for years.

But again, you did NOT have a risk for hiv infection. However, you may have gotten some sort of bacterial infection from whatever the drugs you took were cut with. Instead of posting about an illness you have not been at risk for, go to a doctor and find out what is really going on.

I've read Ann, whole, carefully!,
Risk was! Sorry for the categoricity. Can I try to clarify?..

In my city drugs not powder - it's liquid, which sell to us. So, who and how cook does matter. Cook can be poz, he/she might hurt oneself during cooking... Guy who carried shit from cook to me also can be poz. He can inject himself with that syringe in which he carried shit to me... And he inject me (with my syringe) just after he inject himself in his groin, he touch my vien, his blood might was on his fingers... so still no risk?

Sorry again, and thank you!

edit:
I visited doctor around two month ago, on peak of my illness, his diagnosis - rubella. He say "rash and lymphnodes you have typical for rubella" BUT, tests for rubella IgM, IgG, PCR does not confirmed that. Next his diagnosis was acute HIV!..

Antigen,

If your illness had anything to do with hiv infection, you would have tested positive at your ten week test. You didn't. I fully expect you to continue to test negative if you test at three months.

It is unclear whether or not you used a brand-new, never-before-used needle or not. If you did use a new needle, then you absolutely did not have a risk.

It doesn't matter who touched the drugs before you used them or who cooked them or whatever. Hiv cannot remain viable and able to infect when it is outside the body. The drugs could not have infected you.

Only the needle could infect you and ONLY if it was very, very recently used. Recently as in a matter of minutes. Recently as in he used it right there in front of your eyes.

Antigen,

You're welcome.

If you ever decide to inject drugs again, just make sure it is a brand-new, never used before needle. If you use a new needle, you will not be at risk for hiv infection.

Here's what else you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently - and do NOT share drug injecting syringes - and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Hi, it's me again. Today I've visited local AIDS center, get tested and talked  with infectiologist. Have something to share.

Got tested  with express test system (blood from finger) at 11.4 weeks or 80 days from my risky behavior, and there was no any hints about second (bad) strip, ie negative.

But conversation with doctor (AIDS center infectiologist) overshadowed this happy result. After reading my medical card, where my symptoms, unconfirmed rubella, and listening my complaints about current state of health (temp, rash on back and shoulders, diarrhea that continues about 2 month, stomatitis, pain in liver, fatigue, hair loss)  he very insist on testing at 6 month. I've asked him for PCR and he denied. In my poor country it for newborns from poz mothers  and officialy poz folks only. No way for me. Even for money. Damn! It so hard to wait more!

My questions are - what percent of people seroconverting so late? Exactly number, if you know it, please. And how fast antibody titre rises? How often should I test? Every week, it's ok?

Antigen,

The window period for hiv testing has been three months for years now.

If the symptoms you started having nine days after your drug injecting incident had anything to do with hiv, you would have tested hiv positive by now. Seroconversion illness is not due to the virus itself, it's due to the process the body goes through while producing antibodies.

Go to another doctor to find out what, if anything, is going on with you. Whatever that may be, it is not hiv. You have ruled hiv out of the picture. You do not have hiv.

If the symptoms you started having nine days after your drug injecting incident had anything to do with hiv, you would have tested hiv positive by now.
Those symptoms may be symptoms of other (opportunistic) infections which (re)activated because of broken by HIV immune system?

Seroconversion illness is not due to the virus itself, it's due to the process the body goes through while producing antibodies.
And what is going on with me now may be true seroconversion?

Whatever that may be, it is not hiv. You have ruled hiv out of the picture. You do not have hiv.
I hope!

edit:
Found some answers at hivbook.com (how reliable is this source?):
Quote from: hivbook.com
HIV-specific antibodies can be detected after four weeks in 60-65% of cases, after six weeks in 80%, after eight weeks in 90% and after twelve weeks in 95% of cases.
Five people from 100 will seroconvert later then in 12 weeks!..

Quote from: hivbook.coml
A further test (after six months) is appropriate only in exceptional cases, for example, if there is suspicion of acute retroviral syndrome.
My case!..

Ann, say something please.

I take it you didn't read 3.

3. A negative test result is dependable only in the case of no re-exposure within the past three months (from the time of the original exposure).

Antigen,

As I have repeatedly told you, you did NOT have a risk for hiv infection.

If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned!

Here to say few things:
* Tested negative at 91 day with 3rd gen test system.
* Diarrhea gone week ago without treatment.
* Can't sleep because of polyneuropathy (feet tingling).
* Next my post will be in "Just Tested Poz".

You have reliably tested negative for HIV. You are HIV negative. If you come back again about the same problem, one which you should be discussing with your doctor symptomatically by the way, you will get a time out for at least 28 days.

HIV is not your problem whether you believe it or not.

Antigen,

NO, it will not.

One, because you did not have a risk in the first place as you used a new syringe and two, because you have conclusively tested hiv negative over this event.

There are things in this life other than hiv that can cause your feet to tingle. Go see a doctor to find out what is actually going on. Whatever it is, it is NOT hiv. You do NOT have hiv!!!
