Gilead Copay Card & Stribild/Complera
« on: August 27, 2014, 04:24:51 pm »
There is a new change to the Gilead copayment cards if you use them for either Stribild or Complera.  Instead of a $400/month maximum, there is now just a $6000/year maximum.

The 30-day emergency voucher program does still exist for those that exhaust the $6000 maximum and have no other options (and you haven't used a voucher yet).

Just an FYI, in case anyone loses their insurance, or needs something to get them through until they are able to obtain insurance.  Also useful if you have a high deductible.

That's confusing as that equals $500 a month, $100 more then what it was at $400 a month.

I have been using the copay card since I seated treatment back in july. My copay is only 50 for my Complera. And the copay card covers that. But my question is how long does it last?

I've been using that copay assistance card since I started treatment last November.  It used to be a flat $400/month, up to $4,800 per year, and 12 fills (or 4 90-day fills).  Now it is a max of $6,000 and up to 13 fills per year.  The $6,000 can be used in any way you like.  Use it to your advantage!  Since my high-deductible insurance runs on the fiscal year, I have used up most of the allotted amount this year.  However, next year (since I meet my out of pocket max with the first 6 fills) I should have enough leftover to get an additional month surplus, even when paying full retail price.  (very handy to have that extra bottle when you are having to fight with insurance to pay for your treatment, get prior authorization from your doctor, etc.)

I don't worry about these programs going away.  The reality is that even with insurance, the cost is prohibitively expensive for many people.  I could not afford my treatment without the help from Gilead.  If it ever goes away, I will have to forgo treatment.  I suspect that it is understood that many people are in this predicament.  So my guess is that assistance of some sort will continue indefinitely.

You don't have to forego treatment, and there is assistance, but do not expect it to be seamless and there when you need it. You will need to be proactive and get connected into an ASO so it is there waiting for you.
