Hello All - Been a While - Just throught I'd Check In
« on: October 18, 2009, 07:06:10 am »
it's bee a long summer in more ways than one.  glad to say that my partner's ordeal with Hodgkin's Lymphoma has come to a happy ending.  He was "cancer free" after 4 chemo treatments and was officially done with chemo in August (after the standard 12 bi-weekly ABVD treatements).  he still has the mediport in him which has to get flushed once a month.  we hope that will come out shortly.  we are also in the process of switching to another oncologist since the one that treated him(albeit to a successful conclusion), takes the attitude that we don't need to do any follow up scans.  his philosophy is "we will deal with something if/when symptoms return".  we are not of that casual mindset and i personally would at least like scans every 6 months for the next few years.  other than that, partner is back at work flying the skys with Delta airlines and glad to be back at work.  i still hate my job and now have no vacation left since it was all used for chemo and doctor appointments - don't get me wrong - i'd use it all again in a heartbeat but the rest of the year is going to be tough with no vacation left.  plus the houshold savings has been descimated since we lost an income for the last year but we still have a roof over our head and food on our plates and we both have our "health".  guess i can't ask for anything more than that

hope everyone here is doing well.

Hi BG, good to hear from you again and it's fantastic  to hear your partner has beat the HL! Way to go! I don't blame you one little bit for wanting a more proactive doctor. I'd be wanting follow-up scans for a year or two as well. Why wait until symptoms appear? ::) That sounds foolhardy to me.

Hugs,
Ann

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
