Hi Texas, welcome to the forums.

I've moved your thread to the Nutrition forum, which is the more appropriate place for it. You'll also find plenty of other threads on vitamins and other supplements in this section of the forums.

I also just take a general multi-vit. Can't say it makes much difference either way, but I don't always eat as well as I should so I take one a day. I buy Boots own brand, but Boots is a UK outfit so I don't think you'll find any branches of Boots in Texas.

Hey Texas. I take One a day Men's daily multivitamin. Even though I try to eat as healthy as possible I often find that I don't all the time so I take the multivitamin for those extra vitamins and minerals. All the best to you.

I've read some vitamins (namely vitamin D) are not well absorbed when formulated in a multi-vitamin.  I believe it was Dr. Oz who was also stating vitamin D should be taken as a separate supplement.  Seems vitamin D deficiency may be more prevalent in the HIV population for some reason.

Anyway, might be worth doing a little of your own due diligence.

True this. The best way for our bodies to have an adequate supply of vitamin D is to get enough exposure to sun on our skin. Our bodies are better at producing its own vit D (when exposed to sun) than it is at absorbing it through supplements.

I've been wondering about my own vit D levels for some time now (due to threads in these forums) and so I asked for my vit D to be checked at my last blood draw nearly three months ago. Since then, I've been taking a standard multi-vit (which has 100% RDA vit D) PLUS 1000 IU of vit D3.

I asked the pharmacist at the shop where I bought the multi what was the best vit D supplement and the vit D3 is what he recommended. Amongst the information on the box, it claims; Ultra Vitamin D3 (the brand name) provides the preferred D3 form as produced in the body on exposure to sunlight. It's produced by a (British) company called Vitabiotics.

I'm having my next blood draw on the 15th of this month and I'll request another check on my vit D levels. I'll get the results from both sets of labs two weeks later (for a change!) and I'll post the results here - if I remember. ;)

I've recently been prescribed Vitamin D.  I won't know for a while how it's affecting my levels.

I have taken separate Vit D/Calcium for about six years -- prescribed stuff, and it was not done because my levels were low at the time. It was purely "preventive" by my (progressive) HIV specialist.

I've always also taken a multi-vitamin daily since I was diagnosed, so that's 20 years.

Hi Guys whats the dosage on the Vitamin D?

Try searching for "vitamin D" (you have to include the "quote" marks - the software won't let you search for a single letter) in our search engine (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?action=search;advanced) and you'll get plenty of threads talking about vitamin D and dosages, plus more information on vitamin D.

I'm having my next blood draw on the 15th of this month (May) and I'll request another check on my vit D levels. I'll get the results from both sets of labs two weeks later (for a change!) and I'll post the results here - if I remember. ;)

Unfortunately, they didn't run the test for vitamin D despite my request. They did do it when I was there again on the 29th of May and I should have the result next week.
