Waiting for the Inevitable Ass Pain
« on: July 08, 2010, 03:24:08 pm »
So I went in this morning to finally get my internal anal warts removed though Infrared Coagulation.  The doc said to be prepared for the pain after the freezing wears off. At least I've got a prescription for Percocet  :(

Anybody else had this procedure, versus surgical removal?

I have had both and the after treatment is the same. Stick with simple foods, no spices and limit the dairy. The whole point is to keep your stools soft, or you will live to regret it.

First BM after having done that was the MOST pain I ever experienced. So unbelievable that I ended up laughing rather than crying.
They never came back - thats the good news!

I suggest you have some very interesting distractions planned for when you get off the john, and just congratulate yourself on getting treatment and go to a movie or a party or something.

Holy crap! If I ever have pain at a magnitude you're describing such that laughter erupts, I will be amazed.
I love a good laugh, but never envisioned pain being a route to it.

Thanks guys.  How long did you find the recovery took?  Could I work tomorrow, or wait till Monday...

Try getting something pierced, you may be surprised.

I would wait until Monday, unless you want the whole office to hear you screaming and or laughing.

When I had my nipples pierced, the first one was so intense and the pain was strangely enjoyable. Since I knew what to expect, the second one was even better. However, that pain was nothing compared to the BMs after wart removal.

I hope you won't be too uncomfortable.  I had a couple removed a few years ago with the acid procedure, and I was astonished that I felt no pain whatsoever, during or after.

A recent research report just published is now recommending that anal warts, especially internal, should be removed surgically, so biopsies can be performed.  Pre-cancerous cell changes are sometimes "hidden" in anal warts of gay men:

http://www.aidsmap.com/en/news/BB3C2012-6D41-4819-9B01-B020E0E4690A.asp

I commented on this development recently here, but as with all things related to this issue, I suspect it will be a while before standard procedures are changed.

There is no "recovery period". I didnt shit for a couple of days, and then when i did - WOWOWOWOWOW. And then I went downstairs, got on my bicycle and rode to my photo course because we had a project due the next day.  It didnt hurt the least - all day long -- just the bowl movement. Thats why I suggested you put it in perspective and just grit and bear it and move onto something much more entertaining for the day.

Well, I'm 48 hours out and (touch wood) that wasn't as bad as I expected.  I'm a pretty regular guy, so I was having BM's shortly after with no extreme pain or bleeding.  I did go to work yesterday, and there was a bit of a dull ache after sitting all day, but manageable (guess I filled that percocet prescription for nothing).  This morning it seems OK.  The doc didn't go for all of the warts, as she said that would be too irritating to the anal canal so I've got to go back in a couple months to get those.  Interestingly she said sometimes treating most of them will cause the others to disappear.  She's very good at explaining the whole process as she goes along: the freezing, frying and scraping!

This is part of a regular anal dysplasia monitoring program at that hospital I go to, so they've been biopsying them every 6 months.  It is also a teaching hospital so I had the doc and an intern looking up my butt, HIV really breaks down any hang-ups you have about bodily functions!

I've had laser beams up my pooper, as well as full on surgery with stitches.  The stitches were the worse of the two, and I think I abstained from anal sex for a full six months though that probably wasn't necessary.

:o Yikes, stitches up the butt sounds incredibly painful.  Anal warts definitely take a lot of the glamour out  of being a bottom!  The doc always invites me to watch on the monitor as the probe goes up there, but I politely decline.

Ah, but the doctor who did the stitches was this incredibly hot gay South African guy. It was like doing to the dentist, and really the painful part was the injection of whatever they use to numb you up locally.  By the time I'd had the surgery I'd already attempted months of freezing them off, at least four sessions.  I'm not sure why your doctor thinks treating them a bit makes the untreated ones go away on their own, that's not what happened to mine.  In fact they seemed to breed exponentially.  I also had a grade-3 external hemorrhoid at the same time, though that was from carrying a heavy air conditioner up four flights of stairs, and not from getting plowed by Carlos magnificent uncut cock in Stall #3 of the TomKat bookstore.

As already related here, mine was the early nineties and laser. I was dating a med student. So he went to the operation and told me they dilated my asshole as big as a football. That seemed to turn him on....

So I had my second dose of ass-burning last Thursday.  Unfortunately there were still some little wart critters up there.  (Well one was .5 cm, so not so little).  This time was even less painfull then the last.  No aching, nothing.  Back again in 3 months.

I had this exact experience when I got my nips pierced.  It was some of the worst pain ever, but I got a woody.  Strange how that happens.

To the OP:  I've not had warts removed, but I always have very hard stools that cause me to bleed.  I now use lube to poo, so maybe you should try lube for those first poos.

Just out of curiosity, what type of doctor treats anal warts? Dermatologists or urologists do the pesky buggers out front, do they also do the back passage ones?

I've had more warts removed than average Joe but have never had any pain at the time or after.
I'm actually seeing my doctor at weekly intervals now to have the frozen off, both internal and external.
Maybe that is the secret to have several small goes at them rather than having them all done in one go - or more likely, that I'm just tougher than you nancy boys.  ;D

Just out of curiosity, what type of doctor treats anal warts? Dermatologists or urologists do the pesky buggers out front, do they also do the back passage ones?

I've had a variety -- both a dermatologist and even my primary HIV doctor have done topical treatments for anal warts, then I had to have some actually cut out and the dermatologist did that. After my first bout of anal warts 12 years ago and having an anal PAP smear come back with a pre-cancerous lesion reading I only had a colo-rectal surgeon do anything with my rear.

On the latter topic I just had my latest anal PAP smear come back with no worrying HPV strain readings.  If you've had anal warts your HIV doctor should be taking annual anal PAP smears, though actually rates are so high in HIV+ MSM patients that even if you've not had anal warts you should get one, and that's what the NY state depart of health now officially recommends, for both HIV+ men and women.

further reading here, and also explains why this isn't being widely done yet: http://www.thebodypro.com/content/confs/croi2009/art50604.html
