Title: Dr. Frascino changed his view on the possibility of a cure in the next decade
Post by: xman on January 31, 2011, 01:00:38 pm
Dr. Frascino, a famous researcher, activist and HIV survivor has changed his view on the possibities of a cure in the next years. Known to be quite skeptical of any breakthroughs in the foreseeable future he seems much more optimistic now. More and more scientist are excited about the chances of something that will change the current situation of the epidemic. There's not other disease with so much news in research and development than HIV infection.

Do you see something on the distant horizont?
Jan 27, 2011

I was reading your blog and it seems that the hope for a cure in the next decade is becoming more realistic than previously thought. There's even a homepage of scientists committed to find a cure in the decade ahead. The page is http://www.hiv-reservoir.net/

Do you begin to see something on the distant horizont?

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hi,

Actually I'm becoming increasingly more excited that cure is indeed possible in the not-too-distant future. I'm in the process of writing a multipart blog entry for this site that will discuss this topic in greater detail. So I'll postpone a detailed answer now and suggest you stay tuned to my blog page, OK?

Dr. Bob

Great news and I too will follow the blog.  As mentioned before, that goal will not be reached without various 'dead ends' and 'failed experiments' but I still remain hopeful.  In the meantime my daily dose of Atripla will keep me among the living.

The problem with all that research is:
1. every research is just a piece of a jigsaw-puzzle
2. but it takes a genius to make it work together

Dr Bob is a fucking idiot. Seriously this is a fella who recommends that people get tested for HIV at six months because of a blowjob.

Going by the anecdotal information supplied on this board that might be a wise recommendation.

Part 1 of 3 has been posted by Dr. Bob.  I'm surprised by this new optimism he has, because he had said he wasn't all that optimistic as few as 5 months ago.  One of the other docs on thebody recently said a vaccine is probably in the near future, but any kind of cure probably won't happen due to all the places HIV hides out and how hard it would be to flush them out.

Here is Part 1.  He is leaving readers hanging for his reasons for his newfound optimism.

NAPWA just decided NOT to include advocacy for AIDS cure research in AIDSWatch, the national AIDS lobby day.

ANYway, we just blogged about this--please read it. It's called, "Is AIDSWatch Keeping Up? It's on the Poz home page under the red logo for AIDS Treatment News. I hope you'll comment on it at the bottom.

I actually blogged about our POZ blog post here (yes, blogging about a blog post): http://aidspolicyproject.blogspot.com/

Part 3:  Most who read this forum will know as much or more about all the research going on Dr. Bob talks about.  I guess it is good for those, including myself, who are still learning about all the different research going on--the problems and the optimistic parts.  So, it is a good rundown for those just starting out.

The take-home message: A CURE IS NOT ONLY POSSIBLE; IT'S FINALLY IN SIGHT AND HOPEFULLY SOON WITHIN REACH!

that's my life-line at the moment.
but still very upsetting i cant know what 'IN SIGHT' and 'SOON WITHIN REACH' means in real terms of time.
