Title: worried out of my mind
Post by: worrymaniac on March 10, 2013, 05:47:44 pm
Hi, I am a male student living in the UK.
On Wednesday 27th February I engaged in sexual activity with a girl (student) I met on a night out of whom I do not know the status.
Firstly when we got back to her place, she gave me unprotected oral sex which must have lasted no longer than 30 seconds.
After this we had protected sex with a condom of hers.
6 hours before this sexual encounter, before going out, I trimmed my pubic hair with nail scissors and nicked myself slightly at the base of my penis.
During intercourse, I wasn't fully erect and I don't know whether the condom fully covered the nick or whether I penetrated her deep enough for my nick to be inside her.
During the intercourse I don't think she produced much in terms of vaginal fluid, and when I withdrew, the condom was pretty dry.

Prior to the event I hadn't had full sexual intercourse for just under a year and since the event, I noticed I was getting frequent erections and have had a few wet dreams. I don't know whether this was because I had had sexual intercourse
On Friday (8th May) the head of my penis and foreskin seemed to swell up slightly and I had a slight pain in my testicles.
On Saturday (9th March) both sides of my groin seemed to be swollen although I'm not sure whether it's just muscles that I haven't particularly paid attention to in the past that I have noticed and thought it's swollen lymph nodes.
I haven't got any swelling that I can see anywhere else in my body that there may be lymph nodes. I have had no fever, diarrhoea, rashes are anything.
I have always had a slightly red patch at the tip of my penis surrounding the japs eye which has been dull and I have been tested for STIs in the past and everything to date has come back negative. However this red patch seems to be noticeably more shiny recently. There is no apparent discharge and when I dab the tip of the penis with tissue, there is no moisture absorbed on the tissue.
I have not had an STI test since this latest encounter but I have an appointment booked.

I am worrying myself sick thinking I have contracted HIV from 1 stupid night. What are these symptoms? Is my anxiety making things worse? I am worrying needlessly?

Please help put my mind at rest.

Thank you in advance

In the situation you've provided, you haven't put yourself at risk for HIV.

How can the symtoms I described be explained? Like my swollen lymph nodes in my groins and the pain in my testes?

See your doctor if you are concerned, they have nothing to do with HIV.

Hi, I am still worrying that cutting my penis (a small cut) 6 hours before this sexual encounter has infected me with HIV.
Around 20th/21st march I got what I thought was tonsillitis. i am quite susceptible to tonsillitis as I have had it many times in the past, I was tired at the time, the weather was cold and lots of people had sore throats and colds. it last for just under a week with me treating it and taking non prescribed drugs eg. Paracetamol and ibuprofen with a lot of sleep and rest.
When this passed off a red rash seemed to be developing on the head of my penis under the foreskin. After getting back off a holiday I began treating it in all sorts of ways eg. Drying it, clotrimazole cream etc but it still isn't going.
I've read that thrush is a symptom of HIV but the rash doesn't seem to be going away with thrush treatment.
It developed around 26th march, just under a month after this sexual encounter and is still present today. I also seem to have a bit of a sore throat on 1 side of my throat although this may be due to tiredness and anxiety.

Are these things typical in terms of timings after infection?

I'm worried sick and I don't feel like I can speak to anyone about it.

Maniac,

If are worried about your penis or you feel unwell, see a doctor. Whatever is going has nothing to do with hiv.

You have NOT been at risk for hiv infection in the situation you describe.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST FOR HIV SPECIFICALLY OVER BLOWJOBS OR PROTECTED INTERCOURSE, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
