A New Kind of Something Old-Black Garlic
« on: July 20, 2009, 08:23:42 pm »
My mum just told me about this and I googled to see what's the fuss. Anyone tried Black Garlic? Seems to be the new health trend sweeping Asia and the West Coast now.
Am posting this site strictly for the info content & discussion only.  ;)
Seems they started it. They have links on articles. See how much you digest. ;D

PS: I thought I could save some green & ferment it myself with a hairdryer or microwave but geez...ah well. LOL. ::)

Looks tasty but may not be a good choice for some people since garlic supplements may lower blood concentrations of the protease inhibitor Invirase (saquinavir).  (source: http://www.aidsmeds.com/articles/1667_14733.shtml)

Not sure what this means for folks on other HIV meds...

I read about garlic a quite a bit - seems that it may be helpful if you are NOT on HAART and once you are on HAART you should limit garlic intake to normal as used in your cooking.

Don't confuse garlic supplements (i.e. pills) with actual garlic. As mecch has pointed out, used in moderation in your cooking, raw garlic shouldn't be a problem.

I haven't tried it. But even white garlic has not conclusively been proven to have real benefits. Many claims have been made, but were not reproduced in further studies.
Even if the black garlic is twice as good as the white one, it may still a bust.
And of course there is the concern with HAART interaction.

I tried the white garlic in the past, but took it off my supplement regimen a long time ago.
