Been away a while...
« on: May 04, 2012, 03:51:14 pm »
Hey everyone,

My first semester at my new school is winding down, and I finally have the opportunity to get back on the forums. This semester was a killer. Now I know what they mean when they say university is a full time job!

I met with my doctor today. I was hoping to get accepted to take part in a study, but because of a mutation, I'm not able to do it. She has put me on a regimen of Norvir, Reyataz and Truvada. Three pills, once a day. I have the Gilead and Bristol-Myers co-pay assistance cards, and we are looking into other assistance programs through the drug companies. My prescription coverage might as well be non-existant (student health plan, $1000 per plan year). The advocate at the doctor's office suggested that I call AHF Pharmacy. Does anyone here have experience with them? I know they are a not for profit pharmacy specializing in HIV?AIDS and they have several locations around the country. They say they will "work with me" but I'm just wondering what that means exactly. The other pharmacies I called were charging between $2300-$2600 per month after the co-pay assistance was deducted.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions of ways I might try to find some help? I live in Virginia, so ADAP is not an option. Apparently, they have a waiting list a mile long.

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well, and I look forward to hearing from some of you.

Ok...so...update:

Literally five minutes after I posted, the pharmacist called me back and said the medication was in the mail and would be delivered to me tomorrow. I asked "So, how do we work out the payment plan?" His response: "Oh, don't worry about it. We'll give them to you."  :o :o :o :o :o

All I can say is: EVERYONE, PLEASE DONATE TO THIS ORGANIZATION. What they did for me is what they do for a lot of people, and the only way they can do it is with the support of their patrons. They will fill any prescription, but they specialize in helping those with HIV/AIDS.

arlva, that's great news!

If you're planning on staying in VA, get yourself on that waiting list ASAP. You'll get to the top of the list eventually, so the sooner you get on it, the better. Good luck with the ADAP issue.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

... and of course, Virginia has had a budget surplus for the past three years so it's utter nonsense that they have an ADAP waiting list. Not to mention all it would cost is a measly $1 million to clear that state's waiting list.

I've yet to see a clear reason for this situation in this particular state.
