My Body Needs Vitamins!
« on: June 23, 2011, 09:31:10 am »
Just had my new labs done and as usual my vitamin B12 and Vit D levels are extremely low.  So now I am on prescription Vit D 50,000 IU and getting B12 shots monthly.  My levels were lower than ever this time despite taking supplements.  I can tell the difference already from the B12 shot I got yesterday.  Much more energy!  Make sure you get your Vit levels checked along with your regular labs.  My Dr is pretty good about that, my old Dr not so much.  Props to me for getting my cholesterol down to 157 though despite my weekly burger/fries habit and taking no statins.  CD4 count fell 50 clicks to 855 but percentage went up 3 points...bonus.

I don't think my Dr has done a vitamin check.  Is this somehing that is usually routine or is it something that was tested because you had a specific symptom?  My doc usually checks cd4/vl/cbc/chem/lipids.   I see on here that a lot of people have other tests such as vitamin or testosterone etc.  Should I ask for these also?

My Vitamin D was pretty low too but from what I understand it's not entirely uncommon and is not neccessarily related to being poz. If you take a supplement, it should help eventually.

I also found out my testoserone was on the low side, so I just had new labs done. Not sure what happens after that. The idea of taking testosterone supplements sound weird. I don't want my body to change in anyway.

My doc did the vitamin D check as routine. I was low and he supplemented for a while. Went up

I had mentionned B12 to him (something I had learned here) . He did not follow me on htis one.

But, for some other condition , he referred me to the neurologist.

And the first thing the neurologist  did was to order B, B12, and E dosing and supplementing.

I got that blood drawn today, we will see...

B12 supplementing I am getting is oral , though...

I would like to hear from others between difference on efficacy between oral and shots (B12)

Thanks

Eric
