Neurologist in NYC Area
« on: September 11, 2008, 10:01:56 pm »
Could anyone possibly recommend a good neurologist in the NYC area?  Since my ID Dr left abruptly last month I cant ask her and I hate to do the yellow pages/internet look up.  Would rather hear from someone who has actually gone.  Thanks for any info.....Joe

free seminar with paul curtis bellman, m.d.

date: wednesday, sept 24th, 2008
time: 7pm - 9pm
place: friends in deed
594 broadway, suite 706
telephone: 212-925-2009

among the topics to be addressed by dr. bellman:

what's new in antiviral and immune based therapy?

which meds to take? when? and in what combinations?

how can treatment regimens evolve towards less toxic meds?

dr. paul curtis bellman, attending physician at st. vincent's
hospital, senior lecturer in immunology at cornell medical school
and noted practicioner of hiv medicine, will discuss a comprehensive
approach to hiv treatment that integrates the specifics of an
individual's situation with principles of hiv therapy in light of
the latest information from scientific research and clinical practice

this is free of charge

q&a is a big part of sessions like this. in other words, it is encouraged.

however you are not permitted to chat with the person sitting next to you or behind you. you must wait til the session concludes and empties out to the next room to chit chat or network etc. all are reminded of this rule  before the guest speaker speaks.

hope this helps

David Simpson is uniquely qualified as a neurologist who specializes in the effects of HIV on the CNS. As such he has few peers in the world (or so I was told before our consultation).

Here's a link...good luck.

What does Bellman speaking at a crisis/support center have to do with neurology?

What does Bellman speaking at a crisis/support center have to do with neurology?

he might hear something there that might, via serendipity,  remind him to do something important
or ask something important either there or elsewhere.

that's the beauty of group discussions, message boards, etc.

in my book, the concept of 'six degrees of separation' applies not only to people but to thoughts
in the framework of stimuli, introspection, etc.

you don't know exactly what's going to be discussed (and remember it's a group discussion) so stop judging. besides, it's free.

as a friend of mine said "one thought leads to another, and another, and another, and so on." that is the point.

furthermore, i don't answer to you. never have, never will. change your tone and i'll think about changing mine. fortunately for me/us there's always the ignore button should I/we run low on patience.

my fascination with serendipity is one of my idiosyncrasies so when i post a post like this i say it with a small prayer of white light

I have no clue what you're trying to say.

re-read my 1st paragraph in post #4 - it's self explanatory. here it is again

he (meaning nyc joe) might hear something (as a trigger) there that might, via serendipity,  remind him to do something important
or ask something important either there or elsewhere.

furthermore, you don't know who's going to be in that room. usually 18-20 people (seomtimes more)

who knows, maybe someone in the neurology field will be there contributing to the Q & A

as the saying goes "you never know"

and networking is allowed but after the meeting adjourns

What on does serendipity have to do with NycJoe's clear-as-day request?

Joe -- Bucko is on the money... David Simpson is one of the best in New York City when it comes to neurologic problems in people living with HIV. Another to consider is Josh Torgovnick, MD.

see my last post. we can't predict the future. who knows, maybe discussions related to neurology will pop up at the support group.

as i said, when i make certain suggestions, they might not fit the bill like a pair of electric blue hotpants but i always suggest them with a small prayer for white light (serendipity)

Thanks to everyone for the info. I will definitely look into one of those 2 Drs mentioned.  I trust the personal experience of others over my insurance company Dr search engine any day of the week!
