Title: Transmission through sex toy
Post by: Curious313 on February 17, 2009, 11:35:58 am
Possible Exposure

20 weeks ago I saw a domme who used a sex toy on me and had me suck on a dildo. I know she has used the sex toy on other gay men. I do not know if she cleaned the vibrator or not. She penentrated me anally with the vibrator. I had one doctor tell me HIV transmission is possible in this setting.

Testing

5 weeks Elisa negative
7 weeks orasure negative
9 weeks clearview negative
11.5 weeks Elisa negative
18 weeks clearview negative
19 weeks Elisa negative

Was I at risk in the first place? Are my tests conclusive?

Curious,

No, you weren't at risk at all. Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse. Once the virus is outside the body, small changes in temperature, moisture content and pH levels quickly damage the virus and render it unable to infect.

The window period for hiv testing is three months and if you had a risk (which you did NOT), you didn't really need to test after the 11.5 week test.

You ARE conclusively hiv negative.

Along with reading the Transmission Lesson linked to in our Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0), here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER TESTING AT THIS TIME, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

Ann,

I am still concerned because. I just started dating a girl in January and we deep kissed for hours at a timea few nights in a row. We did not have sex. 3 weeks later she started having every ARS symptom including fever, sore throat, and body aches. I am also concerned because I have had symptoms such as no appetite, diarrhea, sebhorris dermatitis, and oral hairy leukoplakia. Is it possible that I can have all of these symptoms this early in HIV infection? I am thinking I may be taking longer to seroconvert and am scared I infected my girlfriend. I have lost a lot of weight the last 2 weeks and it is mostly muscle. I do not know what to do. The CDC person on the phone told me Ihave to wait until 6 months for a conclusive result. What do I do?

You didn't have a risk and whomever told you that you needed to test to six months don't know what they are talking about and haven't read their own testing guidelines. If you would have had a risk, 3 months would have been conclusive. Your girl friend is not having ARS from the situation you've provided.

Rod,

What situations would cause a delayed seroconversion? Have there ever been any instances of people with healthy immune systems that experienced a delayed seroconversion? Does deep kissing ever pose a risk if one person has extensive gingivitis and the other just brushed her teeth? I read of an instance of one couple where kissing was pinpointed as the cause of HIV transmission.

You don't fall in the group that may take longer than 3 months. You are not on chemo, antirejection drugs for a transplant and you aren't a chronic IV drug abuser and no kissing does not transmit HIV.

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.[/color

Rod,

I was just wondering about that case. I know I do not have HIV. I was just wondering how verifiable that case was.

Keep searching for stuff to feed your fears and you will absolutely find that on the net. All to no good purpose.

Whether you choose to believe it or not you are HIV negative. Period. You never needed to test to begin with over your incident, so your negative results were no surprise to us.

What we often find to be common in relation to incidents such as yours is shame and guilt after the fact on the part of a guy who's gone to a professional for sex. As far as risk is concerned it's not who you have sex with but what you do. And in your case nothing you did put you at risk.

So what we're really talking about now aren't science-base facts but feelings. We can't help you beyond what you've already been told. Whether you choose to accept what we say or not is up to you. We know we're on very solid ground with our comments.

If you can't let go of this problem then I suggest you see a therapist or other professional to discuss the situation. We've done what we can do for you and we're not going to get into a back and forth with you about a situation when we know without a doubt that you're HIV negative.

Period.

Title: AutoImmune Disorders and Seroconversion
Post by: Curious313 on February 20, 2009, 10:02:24 am
Ann,

Can autoimmune disorders like hashimoto's disease cause a delay in the body's ability to build up HIV antibodies? Are people with auto immune disorders advised to test out to 6 months?

Curious, have you been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease? Or is this just more of the lingering concerns over a non-risk situation that originally brought you here?

Also, I have merged your threads. Please keep all of your entries in this same thread and don't start any new ones.

Yes, I know that. But you still haven't answered my question.

Curious,

While autoimmune diseases might  cause a FALSE positive result, they do NOT cause delayed seroconversion.

This has nothing to do with you anyway as you have NOT had a risk for hiv infection.

Deal with it.

OK.

Curious, as you have been told repeatedly, whether you choose to believe it or not, yours was a non-risk incident.

In the remainder of your waiting time to test you need to get productively busy with other things. We're not going to be up for anymore sessions of handholding about this.

Rod,

I will notify  you first via private message.

Curious,

Enough already. You don't need to notify anyone what your next test result is - we already know it's going to be negative. You've already tested negative far outside the window period for a NO RISK INCIDENT

LISTEN UP, MAN. YOU ARE HIV NEGATIVE!
.

I'm giving you that time out you've been repeatedly warned about. Do not attempt to create a new account to get around your time out because if you do, you will be permanently banned.
