Sometimes, we do not realize, how much of a difference one person can make.
You are one of those people... welcome back.

Being clumsy with a coffee pot one morning, I fried my modem. Water and electricity don't seem to mix very well - who knew? Long story short, it took me a while to get it sorted out. Otherwise, I've been fine. Sorry I worried anyone. Believe me, if there ever IS cause to worry my daughter has instructions to let people know. No news is good news where I'm concerned. :)
Unfortunately I wasn't sitting on a beach somewhere exotic - I think the most exotic place I went to while I was away was to a lecture given by the head archaeologist (Richard Buckley) in charge of the dig where they pulled Richard III out of a car park in Leicester. Good lecture.
The lecture was given at the house of Dr John C Taylor, creator of the chonophage (http://www.johnctaylor.com/). The one in the bottom photo on the chronophage page is slightly different to the one currently in the same hall, mainly in that the creature on top is more dragon-like. And yes, that hall is in this guy's house. It's an amazing place, full of artwork and antique clocks, some dating from as early as the sixteenth century. He's got some serious money! So yeah, that was kinda exotic, even though it was only over on the other coast of The Rock.
I'm still trying to catch up on threads here, but I'll get there eventually. I wanna know whose been naughty or nice! It is getting to be that time of year, after all. ;D
I missed you guys too. Group hug!
Ann

Here's a photo of the chronophage that currently hangs in Dr. Taylor's hall:
(I think it's nicer than the one on his website - they're the same size, but the dragon has more zing.)
The photo was taken when Dr Taylor was showing it off at an art fair in Shanghai (http://www.isleofman.com/News/details/10040/john-c-taylor-unveils-the-dragon-chronophage-in-shanghai) just over a year ago.
It's absolutely mesmerising to watch. My friend and I stood watching it, totally transfixed, for a quarter of an hour. It was amazing how watching time made time fly. Usually clock-watching makes the minutes drag by.

They found Richard III in a car parked in Leicester? Gee.
Oooops, that's off topic.
Very happy to have ya back, Ann. xoxo

Those damn coffee pots!
It seems my coffee pot magically goes from 6 cups to 30 gallons when it spills.
Welcome back!

I would love to see that ! As far back as I can remember, ( probably 4-5 years old), I have always had a fascination with the mechanical movements of clocks. Ed wont let me wind the clocks with a chime ;D the ticking and the chimes drive him batty. I find it soothing. Clocks are kind of a hobby for me, along with collecting old weather barometers. I also like the fine movements in these weather instruments as well.
I get a kick out of this guys videos :

I think I know have about 25 Barometers. All working, and I know where I purchased each one of them! :)
Ed doesn't mind them, they don't make noise! ;D

Delighted to see Ann back. As a serial lurker who visits approximately monthly I was worried when I saw another post saying she had gone missing.
I am the negative partner in a sero-discordant relationship and this place has helped me a) keep my sanity and b) I like to think make my partner's HIV positive life a little easier...
Without the posters on this forum none of this would be possible so I thank you all, but especially Ann and the other moderators for keeping this a sensible island in a turbulent sea....

Obscenely late, but welcome back Ann! Hugs.
