Charleston pictures!
« on: February 11, 2007, 01:31:37 pm »
They're in.  Oh yes.

I took this first picture while I was on the train.  I'm clearly overjoyed to be heading to the Deep South.

This was an abandoned industrial building type thing somewhere in the bowels of North Carolina.  Seeing as how I took this from a moving train, I'm quite proud of how it turned out.

I'm a rockgod!

We look like this all the time.  For real.

Are they cannonballs or large anal beads?  I'm never telling.

We found fun things to play with on the Battery.

The more I look at this picture, the more demented I think it is.

This is the most boring city on the East Coast.  Beautiful... but boring.

In response to "be a filthy faggot" with that guy I picked up... I did this.  I respond to commands well.

Fun with the Charles Town Landing stocks!

Colonial style punishment rocks!

We found a noose and decided to recreate South Carolina's proud history of mobl justice with Jim.

I found a shout out to Richmond on a Civil War monument.

Seriously... how effing Southern is this?

No one has ever thought to do anything like this ever before.

If I saw one more Georgian style building... I would have lost it.

We stuck out like sore thumbs in downtown Charleston.

Don't ask.  Well, ask... but don't expect a sensible answer.

Ceci n'est pas une cimetière.

He was pretty cute.  We had fun.  And you should have taken pictures.  Depravity should be captured, I feel.

A Benj-like activity?  How many guesses do I get?

Cocaine... either being involved all by its oddy-knocky... or as the springboard to other activities that make the Baby Jesus cry.

But either way, I'm going with coke.

It was a birthday present from one of the top hair salons in Manhattan... what can I say?  I'd not touched such things for about 3 years so I felt a little dabble was tolerable.  It didn't get way out of hand or anything, unless we count the Brazilian.

A Brazilian was involved?

Dude!  They seriously called me a Yankee there!  I was like, "But Richmond... capital of the Confederacy."

Nope... Yankee.

Yes.. my tongue is quite long.  I'm like a frog or something.

And yes, it does come in extraordinarily handy for that thing.   ;D

Richmond was the Capital or the Confederacy, quite true.

Unfortunately, somewhere through the century, well, she lost her way.  (Charlestonians believe this to be true.  Of course, they are uber-snobs when it comes to all things Southern)

But since the fair city to the North has left Monument Avenue untouched, I forgive her for this.

Monument Avenue: The Nicest Second Place Prize in the History of Everything Ever!

I think they think Richmond lost its way when it became the southernmost city in the BosWash about ten years ago.

Or when it became apparent that virtually no one in the city had a Southern accent anymore.

Or when it became an industrial and banking center in the early 20th century.

Or when it became a post-industrial wasteland like it's northern cousins in the later 20th century.

Or when most residents of the city simply started thinking of Monument Avenue as being simply more convenient than Broad Street instead of as the spiritual center of the South.

We have a lot of different theories as to why we're not really "the South" anymore... but we get back by generally having our own sort of snobbiness... mostly that we're hardcore for having such a high crime rate, we're not part of any county, and we have really, really high gonorrhea rates.

It's all Greek to me.

Ba-ba-dum.

Thank you for telling me though... I thought Georgian was wrong... but it looked the closest... and I don't know anything about Greek Revival archecture, anyway...   ;D

I know... I was making fun of my lack of knowledge of archecture by making a ridiculous statement about not knowing what building that was... it apparently backfired.  Poop.   ;)

Philadelphia's like 100 or so miles from the ocean.  That would have to be an extremely tall building.   :D

I've actually never seen a picture of the Old North Church (which is what I believe that one is called).  But I lived in Williamsburg (Virginia)... which meant I was up to my armpits in the Georgian style... or as I called it, "Overdone Craptacular in Brick" because I got so sick of it.

They were all of three dollars.  And they were polyester.  Low grade polyester.  Itchy.
