For Kevin C. McMurry (1960 - 2008)

Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For though from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar
.

Dear Friend,

How can I ever say how much you have meant to me?  The times we have laughed together, and also the bad times....the kicks we got out of being "Long Term Survivors", knowing we were really "Long Term Guinea Pigs"....I will miss your quiet sweet spirit....your sense of good taste....your advice on which movies to see and not to see!......your willingness to drive when we went places at night, knowing how much I hated to.

The hardest thing for me to do is to remove your phone number from my speed dial....so forgive me if I leave it just awhile longer.  I will miss our phone conversations most of all.

Love always,

Alan

I would leave the number on my speed dial if it were me...If that makes you feel better :)

I still have a rolodex, Alan. Imagine! And there are certain numbers there that I will never remove. I'll leave that task to someone who takes care of such things after me. Meanwhile, those are names and people I will never discard.

It's hard for me to believe you've been gone a whole year now.   I sure have missed you.

I took some flowers to your grave today (even though I know you aren't there!).    I let your Mom and your sister know.  They miss you more than you can imagine, but I think they are getting along o.k.

Rest in peace honey, and know that you are loved very much.

Always,
Alan

Thinking of you on your birthday...and remembering how we always "jointly celebrated" our birthdays, since they are so close together.

Wishing you peace and love, wherever you may be.   You'll always be in my heart.

Love,

Alan
