Title: HIVandHCV coinfection how many of you tested positive beyoun 12weeks?
Post by: PierPier on July 16, 2008, 06:27:00 am
Hi

I had 2 potected intercourses (oral and vaginal in same condoms) with sex russian worker who I am affraid is HIV and HCV pos and probably has lots of other STDs (yes i am an idiot!). The condoms did not break or slip off  but they might have been damaged in someother way - she had very long nails - probably sharp as well.

in 10 days i had a rush on my penis which doctor said might have been from abrasion duringsex. It was traetedand disapeard but the itching lasted much longer and it still appears every now and then.

It's 2,5 months now and I had almost every ARS symptom you could imagine i know symptoms are not indicative but apart from OCD symptoms I had  (like mild fever significant lose of weight etc etc.) I recently had symptms which are very scary - grey stole and mudy urine (both typical for HCV)

I will test next week for 12 weeks mark but I am affraid I have accute HIV/HCV coinfection so how many of you tested pos lon after 3months mark?

You didn't have a risk of contracting HIV or HCV. Protected sex is just that. PROTECTED.

so what does it mean to use the condom incorrectly?
also  I did not have ful erection i belive this can put me at risk even with condom

I tested neg at 8 weeks mark but I am afraid to even take the 3 months test :(

Means you didn't store the condom correctly, the expiration date had expired, you didn't use lube which caused the condom to fail or you didn't use the condom consistently. Had the condom failed you would have known.

thanks  that explains something thoughiamnotsure if theystored it correctly in Russian Pharmacy and i did not check the expiration date (i just can hope for that)
I am still affraid with all the symptoms I have had so far (I haven seen anyone on this forum to have as many as i did -so far 16) but at least i hope condom protected me

I will definitely never ever do something like that again in my entire life - i did it a few times before but I never went through a horror like this

Like has been said previously. Had the condom failed you would have known. The condom didn't fail so you didn't have a risk.

the doctor in HIV specialist clinic said i should test because there is still a risk I got it from seamen (if there was blood in it and its really hard to notice) when i was masturbating just after taking my Willy out of her vagina
or if there was small cut with her nails that I could not noticeas well
- the risk is very low but it is there

Unfortunately they  said that 3 months is great indicator but  6 months is conclusive because of possible HCV coinfection - it's very rare but i had my chance to get it

STILL I really wish you are right and hope it is that easy
AND I will tell you the results next week

Your concern is based in feelings and not in facts.

Condoms provide very effective protection no matter whom you are with. It doesn't matter if the person you're with is HIV+. Condoms do the job. We know that for sure.

Often we find men are more anxious about intercourse with a sex worker because they imagine themselves to be at greater risk. Or they are ashamed of having been with a pro. Whatever. The bottom line is you used condoms.

As for your symptoms, symptoms never tell you anything reliably about your HIV status. Only an HIV test can give you that answer. But you didn't have a risk for transmission, so if your symptoms  persist you should dicuss them with your doctor.

Last but not least, re-testing is totally unnecessary but I suspect you will want to do it anyway because you're so anxious about the issue. 12-13 weeks is now the standard testing point and has been for sometime. Any doctor who's advocating otherwise except in certain rare circumstances which don't apply to you, (such as IV drug use, organ transplant patient, etc.), is simply out-of-date.

This is not an HIV situation. But go ahead and test if you must and collect the inevitable negative result.

Cheers,

I am still waiting to take the 12 weeks test. What worries me is that if you go to HIV positive forum you will find people who had no risk situations using condoms and they are HIV+
so I am not 100% sure of condoms effectiveness  :o perhaps even ifthey did not broke or sliped off there's something else that can go wrong without noticing

You had no business in that forum and you can't go by what people post. You don't contract HIV from protected sex.

one last question for today

why are IV drug users greater risk is it simply because HIV is more prevalent among them or because their immune system is weeker and they are more likely to transmit sue to this (high viral load, get cuts easier etc) would it affect me(I do not use drugs) or only drug user is at higher risk??

Pier,

Drug users are only at risk if they share drug injecting needles with other people or have unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse with other people. Just like the rest of us. There is no such thing as "risk groups" of people, there are only risk ACTIVITIES.

Hep C is almost never transmitted through vaginal intercourse.

Hiv transmission is prevented when a condom is used.

You have not had a risk for either virus.

You will not be permitted to use this forum to go on and on about your no-risk situation. Read the posting guidelines found in the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) - and please, consider yourself warned.

ok I will restrain from questions I just have so many mixed information andeven in HIV testing labsthey say about high risk groups so I do not knowwaht it all means and what to think
Ihopefor negaitve and putting down my fears it isjust that I keepon havingmany different symptomes and it's really not that easy to explain everything j ust as anxiety had this only been flu or pains in the back  but grayish stole is quite alarming that's why I ask so many questions forgivemebut I am in real nervous breakdown

Pier,

If you're having physical symptoms, then you need to see a doctor about them instead of posting on an internet forum. You cannot be diagnosed over the internet. Hiv isn't the only illness in the world, you know.

I know a lot of medical authorities will talk about "risk groups", but I'm here to tell you it's a load of crap. I wasn't in any "risk group" and that lead me to let my guard down, and now I'm hiv positive.

The ONLY "risk group" that exists in the real world is the group of people who engage in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse or needle sharing.

You used a condom. You are not in that risk group. You weren't at risk.

Title: 12 weeks howconclusive it that?
Post by: PierPier on July 17, 2008, 01:35:01 pm

I was not supposed  to post untill my 12 weeks test but since Andy toldmenotto send PMs and insteadpost in threads my questions is
I knowtherules- not questionig 3 months result but ireallywant to know the answer to this onei thinkit is IMPORTANT

why do you tell people 3months is conclusive when all the doctors say 6 months is conclusive and only in case you have accute HCV or HBV (and it can takeeven longer uptto 9months)
http://www.thebody.com/Forums/AIDS/Hepatitis/Current/Q194485.html

you put people at easa and I do understand that but
I was also informed protected sex is always safe and I did hear of cases when protection did not work (and I do not mean slipping off or breaking)

Perhaps if I wasn't told condoms are 100% reliable I would not have to go through the hell I am in now (i have many ARS symptoms and my mother who knows nothing about my fear says i look like a shadow of a man i used to be so it is not just my imagination unfortunately )

Whoever says 6 months, is not up to date with the testing guidelines. The CDC changed the guidelines to 3 months in 2004.  Protected sex is just what it says. If someone says they were infected by protected sex then they are lying, plain and simple. Condoms that are used consistently and correctly will absolutely prevent HIV and most other STDs.

etract from cdc.gov

Ninety-seven percent of persons will develop antibodies in the first 3 months following the time of their infection. In very rare cases, it can take up to 6 months to develop antibodies to HIV.

so yes majority of people will test positive by 3months that's were we agree but still you never know if your case is not rare + this is providing you only contracted HIV and in case of HIV infected pro the chances are really high they have something else as well which might facilitate the transmission this is what HIV specialist told me.

STILL I PRAY AN HOPE FOR THE BEST

It would help if you understood what you read.  The 3% are those that are taking Chemo, antirejection drugs for transplants and chronic IV drug abusers. You do not fall within that catagory.

Pier,

If you've read the posting guidelines found in the Welcome thread like you've been asked to, you will have read the following:

guy what do you exactly mean by 13 weeks - at the end of 13th week or beginning?
I want to test 1st day of 13th week because my friend will be with me for support if worst case scenario happens and than in couple of days he takes his holidays so is 12 weeks conclusive or should i wait another week?

Pier,

It doesn't matter if you test at the beginning of week 13 or at the end. Either result will be conclusive.

You don't need to test in the first place. You did not have a risk for hiv infection.

Please re-read my warning to you in the post above yours. This is your last warning.

You had no risk.

I got  -ve ;D

Can't say it totally puted me at ease as I still have all ache pains loose stoles etc. However  doctorat HIV treatemnt center toldmetodoother test as indeed the pains are probably caused by other diseasese or anxiety (unfortunatelly not all of them)
I know you say 12weeks /3 months is conclusive for 99% people
still they told me to test once again after next 3 months  this is central HIV centre in Hungary so unfortunatelly they are not outdated but the chances my result will change are minimal indeed

I am more optymistic and hope the symptoms will go away finally

BTW the doctor did sholarship in LA so I think she is credible. Are there anynew STDs dicovered recentlly that resamble HIV? Pier,

You've been told repeatedly that you had no risk. You had no reason to test. Whatever is going on with you has nothing to do with hiv or hcv.

I'm giving you that time out I warned you about. Do not attempt to create a new account to get around your time out because if you do, you will be permanently banned.
