Exposure 4 years a go.
« on: January 12, 2013, 12:54:11 am »
Had a ripped condom experience with a CSW over four years a go. Was stupid and did not get tested soon but have practiced extreme safe sex since. Started noticing some wierd skin issues so went to local County HIV test center.

Took an oraquik oral test. The women giving it told me I was negative and that she had been giving test for 13 years. My mouth was very dry during the test including my gums because of my nerves.

My questions are: Does the dry gums matter also having let four years go by could the antibodies not show up as easily as everyone else who is testing within 3 months to one year?

Thanks for response. The ripped condom was the only time I had that experience and it has been on my mind since then.

SJ,

If having a dry mouth affected the oral swab tests, they wouldn't be approved for use. You can't seriously think you're the only one to have been tested while nervous with a resulting dry mouth?

As for your time-frame worry, once a person has produced enough antibodies to test positive, they will always test positive no matter how far out of the window period they may be. If you became hiv positive four years ago, you would have tested positive.

You didn't.

You do not have hiv. You are conclusively hiv negative.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
